“Super Steam”
Reviewed 4 November 2013

What a hopping spot! This place is nonstop and has a great buzz. Located right on University Avenue, it's convenient. As for the eats, everything we ordered tasted fresh and fabulous. The price was somewhat reasonable for two - approx. $75 for five dishes plus rice and two glasses of wine each. The seating is a bit crowded and the noise level is pretty high - but, on a Friday night, it's definitely a go-to spot. Eat up - you won't be hungry again for awhile!

“one of the better options in downtown PA”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

This place is pretty small and informal, so not good for a business meeting, but has some of the better chinese food in the University Ave area. It's the same resaurant group as Tai Pan, which is more formal (and quiet). Steam has a decent dumpling menu, some good clay pot dishes, and generally is good for Taiwanese/Shanghai type cooking (not spicy). The menu is short, and doesn't include a lot of the chinese/american specialties (no broccoli beef), so you should go expecting a more chinese experience than american experience. As a local, it's on our standard eating rotation. The only other Chinese I eat in downtown is Mandrin Gourmet, which currently has a special Chengdu menu because they have a cook from that region. MG also does a decent job at the "american favorites", and is fairly quiet.

“Nice Chinese restaurant in Palo Alto”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

The environment and style is clean and modern, while the flavors of some dishes are quite authentic Chinese.

“hip, busy, and just OK”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

I dropped in for a quick lunch, which was not quick. People who arrived ten minutes after I did were happily eating while I waited. The pea shoot/shrimp dumplings were good but not exceptional, since one tasted neither the pea shoots nor the shrimp. The tofu with seafood came on a bed of a think omelette, unmentioned in the description and adding little or nothing to the dish. Once again, it was pretty but lacked flavor.

“Good dumplings, and other options”
Reviewed 10 October 2013 via mobile

I've been here a couple of times and have had a good experience each time. I've tried most of the dumplings (all good) as well as the Szechuan chicken (a common order). Good setting, especially the outside area on a nice day.
