While it's a mystery to us how they stay in business, they are one of the best-kept secrets in PV. Delicious classic French fare and service.

Usually, it's pretty empty, but on Valentine's Day, hubby and I went for a romantic indulgent dinner and it was packed. If you are a local south bay resident, it's worth the drive up to PV to this little bistro. Located in picturesque Malaga Cove, it's only about 15 minutes from Manhattan Beach.

We found this french restaurant by a web search. The interior decor is pink walls, framed by dark wood timber, pink tablecloths, (yet more) pink menus and dark green chairs matching the wall- to-wall carpet. Some people say the color scheme is dated, but we liked it. There are celebrity pictures on the walls. Lace curtains cover the lower windows propbably because the outside view is of the parking lot, the back side of another building and some trees. After arriving on a weekday evening, we were treated like the only couple in the restaurant because we were the only people there. We enjoyed an appetizer with scallops and crab meat in a cream sauce with baked au gration cheese perfectly blended. Our two entrees were the poached Norwegian salmon with lemon butter and fresh herbs and the shrimp in a white wine sauce, both superbly done. WEEKDAY menu prices varied between a good value and average for a wealthy neighborhood. We like this restaurant so much, we decided to return on the weekend. However, when we came back on a Saturday the SAME menu items were increased by 33 percent!!! Since we were already here, hungry and loved the food, we ordered the delicious boneless duck with grand marnier sauce. There is an additional charge for extra sauce with the dishes. When the restaurant was 3/4 full, the staff began walking up and down the rows of tables "suggesting" the customers order more food and drink. Our waiter stood at our table waiting for us to take a breath in between our conversation to ask us to buy wine, champagne, appetizers, etc. Since we had not finished our meal and due to these interruptions could no longer converse, we made a game of timing these reoccurring visits. The same waiter returned every three to five minutes, NOT wanting to know how the meal was, but wanting us to buy more items off the menu that we didn't want and he wouldn't take no for an answer. For dessert, I was told I would have to buy two chocolate souffles because "they are made that way." During the amazing souffle dessert, the waiter kept pestering us to buy coffee or to make another order to take with us. We have both been in several french and upscale restaurants and we know the difference between good, attentive service and excessive nagging. We were made to feel so uncomfortable by the pestering staff that we won't return.
