“Excellent Sunday Brunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 December 2012

We had a party of 10 meet for Sunday Brunch. We arrived at 11 AM (opening time) and enjoyed the fact that there was no line for the food. By 11:45, a line developed and moved a bit slow. I think that the food was excellent for an all you can eat brunch. Normally, I would be afraid to eat suishi at an "all you can eat establishment"... but here... the suishi was quite good. Was brought out fresh in small increments. Carving station included prime rib, turkey breast, and lamb. All 3 were excellent. I enjoyed the miso salmon and short ribs from the hot plates. 1 glass of champagne was included with the brunch also fresh squeezed OJ was available.

At $40 a person, I think this is very reasonable.

Food ; Excellent
Price ; Reasonable ($40 / person)
Ambiance; Classy, not too crowded
Parking : Pay parking lot is adjacent to restaurant
Service : Friendly and helpful

“Great service and ambiance”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2012

The soufflé was TDF. The sea bass, which was what the waiter told us "the reason the restaurant was still open," was just so-so. We always order sea bass anywhere it's on the menu. The best sea bass so far is still at Taps in Brea.
Service was great, but the place was not busy when we went about an hour before closing on a Thursday.
Parking is convenient as well.

“A bust”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2012

My husband and I went to their valentine's dinner service, and were disappointed. There were a ton of technical flaws with the cooking. My husband's rice was undercooked, and several other courses were over-done. The high concept, was not matched by the skill of the chef.

“Excellent Brunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2012

My wife and I met Akira Hirose and his wife at a wedding party on Saturday. We learned that he was from Kyoto, had studied fine culinary arts in France for seven years (under Joel Robuchon!) and was operating a restaurant in Pasadena.

We went to Maison Akira for his Sunday brunch. What a treat! For starters, there were dishes of nigiri-sushi, soba and other starters that were a blend of French and Japanese flavors. The hot dishes included Chef Akira's unique chawan-mushi (a hot flavored custard with asparagus vs. the typical Japanese seafood), lamb, turkey, prime rib, grilled salmon, beef burgundy and a few other very delicious items.

The many desserts were equally tasty--especially the traditional creme brulee and the green tea brulee.

The brunch comes with or without a glass of champagne.

Highly recommended.

“Excellent, flavourful food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2012

Attentive, friendly service. We were welcomed as walk-ins just before the kitchen closed.
The shrimp appetiser and apple tart dessert were particularly delicious.
