“Good location, nice property, quiet neighborhood”
Reviewed 29 May 2009

I booked this hotel for Memorial Day weekend using my SPG rewards and only spent $45/night. Being that it was a holiday weekend and we wanted to be in this vicinity, it was a great bargain.

We flew into Santa Ana (John Wayne Airport) and it took us less than an hour to reach this property. It was easy to find on our GPS and there didn't seem to be too much traffic on Saturday.

I went in to check-in and was quickly informed that the Club Lounge was for Platinum guests only. I had never heard of this and apparently CL's are at the hotel's discretion?! That's pretty sad. Basically, being a Gold Member meant jacksquat then.

But I digress.

I was also informed that nightly parking would cost us $13/night... which is extremely high since if you notice, most parking lots in downtown LA cost only $5! I guess this is also because the Sheraton shares its lot and the Pasadena Convention Center is very close by.

There was a mini fridge in our room and a complimentary bottle of water. Flat panel HDTV and all the other amenities. Typical Sheraton room.

The Sheraton is very close to Old Town Pasadena, and the Paseo Colorado (a mall) is about a 5 minute walk away. This part of Pasadena is very quiet and is amidst a residential area even though there is a Hilton and Westin a block away.

There is a 24 hour CVS that is maybe a 5 minutes drive away and a Ralph's (supermarket) very close by.

All in all a pleasant stay, except for the Club Lounge revelation. We would definitely come back here again if we were spending cash & points.

Recently traveled to Pasadena area for high school graudation of family member. The event was in Arcadia but booked this hotel through Priceline for $65/night. Was very satisfied with hotel, staff, location and experience.

The hotel is older, but the rooms were well appointed and modern. I was a little suspect when my room was on the first floor/lobby, but there is a glass door that shuts it off from lobby with key access only. Very quiet. Liked the convience of not using the elevators.

Parking was beneath the hotel and reasonable at $7day with room key access in/out privleges. Parking was ample.

The room was funky with bathroom and closet to your right upon entrance then 5-steps down to bed area. Sure this was just the first floor. No problem and kind of cool for my wife and I. My 72-year old Mom was not as fond of the same set-up in her room down the hall due to the stairs. Just FYI.

The room was modern and well appointed. The hotel on the outside is older and kind of a stucco box style. But very clean and updated throughout. Flat screen TV and lots of room. Our 18-year old son came a day later and was very comfortable on the floor (I'm too cheap to get him his own room - he needs to suffer a little).

The pool was small but very nice with good room to sun. Workout room was well appointed for a smaller hotel. We did not eat in the restuarants but the pub/bar looked great. There were several weddings and a high school reunion - looked like fun. Lots of TVs and sports intensive.

A huge plus was the location. The hotel is right behind the Pasadena Auditorium area and the California Paseo shopping area. It was great to walk around with lots of restuarants, coffee shops and shopping. It is an easy walk to Old Town Pasadena with even more shopping. I went out for a quick walk every morning and stopped for coffee and breakfast snacks at Camiles and Starbucks. Very pedestrian friendly. My wife loves to shop and she was mad she did not have more time to explore the area.

The area is within easy reach of the 110 and 210 freeways. We were able to get to Arcadia within 15-minutes. LAX was about 40-minute drive without traffic. Go into Burbank if you can.

We recently stayed here. 2 rooms -- 1 King room with a nice view overlooking the outdoor pool and 1 two double bed room with a plain-jane view.

Overall, we were very pleased especially considering we paid $74/night+tax thru a promo on Expedia.

Relatives normally stay at the Westin and they said while the Sheraton is not quite as nice as the Westin, the location is even better and the value is much greater.

Overall, staff were very friendly throughout the hotel. I was nervous since we had booked a very low rate thru Expedia, but we were treated nicely throughout our stay.

Rooms were clean. Only issue with 1 room was 1 wand to close the drapes had fallen off. We did not mention this. The HVAC unit in the other room was not blowing cold enough air even with the digital thermostat set down to 70F. The maintenance man arrived promptly after we called the front desk and just as quickly fixed the issue (something to do with a shorted-out relay switch).

Beds and bedding very comfortable.

Starbucks coffee in room was an unexpectedly nice touch.

Fridge in room came in very handy.

Nice outdoor pool. Not huge, but plenty big for the kids and 2-3 dozen sunbathers. No hot tub was a bit of a drawback, but not a big deal for us.

We did not eat at the restaurant at all so I cannot comment on it.

Two nice newer Dell XPS desktop computers at the Sheraton Link. Wish in-room internet was free, but these machines were never busy so we used them instead of paying for in-room internet. I was told there are 3 more computers available in the business center.

Nice newer bathroom. On the small side, but very adequate.

The room with 2 double beds was much larger than we expected -- noticeably larger than the king room. The king room was decent sized.

Parking was fine -- would have liked free parking but we had no problems finding a spot in the attached convention center underground parking deck. $13/day including taxes.

The fitness center had decent equipment (higher-end elipticals/treadmills) although with the nice weather I didn't try it out.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would come back again. Very good value for Pasadena area.

We have traveled the world on business and pleasure, and are discriminating in our tastes.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights, part on SPG points, and part with a special pre-paid Sheraton price that was on their web site. We hoped for an upgrade to the club floor for the continental breakfast and evening snacks, but that did not happen, as they said they were full. The property is in excellent repair and we have no complaints there. Also, it is only a half block from Paseo Colorado (full of shops and restaurants), and a nice supermarket, so we were quite happy with a light breakfast and an evening meal that only required a short walk across the street. The location is definitely a high point. We had considered the Pasadena Westin, but are happy with our choice. While many talk about the location relative to Old Town Pasadena, we were underwhelmed with that district. Very happy with the location of the Sheraton, and it was a great base for visiting the top locations around LA.

Now for some details: Our first room was a King that was directly across from the vending/ice room. We thought that might be noisy, but I put a towel across the bottom of the door, and it was fine. However, the air conditioning unit was very very loud and came on occasionally (it was also over powered, and would come on for just 2 or 3 minutes to lower the temperature by several degrees) and this was a significant negative. It was loud enough to waken most sleepers. The other negative was that there was very little extra room to move about in the room.

While we didn't complain, we did suggest that if there was a better room we would appreciate a change, and they moved us to a jr. suite just a few doors down from the first room. This room had much more space, and being on the north side, did not get hot during the day and did not need the air conditioning unit to turn on. Just lovely for the last 2 days of our trip. I should note that both rooms had a small fridge, and the in-room coffee maker was extremely easy to use, had Starbucks coffee, there were LCD TV's, and outside of the noisy AC in the first room - we would rate this hotel as superior. The King bed was very comfortable, and the pillows (though not down) were also good. This was another big plus. The front desk had a list of restaurants, and they had some suggestions for those of us who have a higher level of taste. We did not use the small pool, as it was still too cold outside.

We would definitely stay here again. (If my wife is happy, I'm happy).

Located one block from the shopping mall and 4 blocks from Old Pasadena. Free shuttle service. Many restaurants to choose from in the area. Parking is $13 per day with in and out privileges.

We were visiting Pasadena to see some family and see the Huntington Library. We are normally Hilton people however we decided to take a chance with Priceline since it was just for the one night. The service was top notch, gracious and professional. The lobby and rooms nicely decorated. Better than you would expect for a 3.5 star hotel. We didn't have a view but we didn't need one...we didn't come to hang out at the hotel. Starbucks in the room was a nice touch plus the Bliss bathroom amenities. Beds were firm and comfortable with fluffy down pillows. The only complaints we would have is that the sheets are so starchy that they make tons of noise every time you move around, it would have been nice if they were softer. Also, there is a good amount of space underneath the hotel door so you can basically hear any person that goes by and it was annoying when some guests who came late (almost 2 am) were yelling and laughing in the hall. Woke up my 2 kids...that was fun. Other than that, the location is prime and close to everything. I would absolutely stay here again.

  • Liked — clean, modernized rooms , polite service
  • Disliked — stiff sheets, being able to hear other guests in the hallway

Great location and generally nice hotel, but from the start, we could tell that booking through a discount service (Hotwire) made us second class citizens. When we arrived they didn't have the queen bed that we requested and had to settle for two oversized double beds. One of the beds was fine, but the other sagged in the middle- not something you ever expect in a Sheraton. When I pulled the drapes open, I was surprised to see nothing but a blank stucco wall about 8 feet away. You couldn't even see the sky. When I inquired about both of these, the front desk staff discourteously reminded me that we booked through Hotwire. The meaning was pretty clear- what else should I expect? I use Hotwire a lot, and have never had this type of experience with a supposed 3+ star hotel before.

One more gripe- parking fees and meal costs are outrageous!
