“This hotel is great for the money”
Reviewed 16 December 2006

This hotel was quiet, very clean, and our room (queen suite) was huge. Two beds, and a sofa plus a desk. The staff was very nice, quite attentive. Breakfast was free, and they even had a wine a cheese session in the evening. The night before we stayed in a hotel that cost more than twice as much and believe me the differences weren't significant.

We stayed here after staying 5 days at a wonderful Residence Inn property in L.A., so we are probably harsher in our evaluation then we might otherwise have been.

As noted earlier, the location is perfect- right on Route 46 very near a lot of good wineries, and right on the road to San Simeon. Although it's not within walking distance of any great restaurants, you can pick up food and wine at the Target in the strip center next door, or eat at the Carl's Jr, or the Chili's (which looked near completion in Nov 06). We were also pleasantly surprised to find a small fridge and microwave, since we only had a room vs. a suite. People with kids seemed to be enjoying the outdoor pool. There was also a wine and cheese reception 5-7, which looked nice (but not after a day at the wineries!), and the breakfast coffee was surprisingly good.

On the downside, the entire hotel SMELLS intensely of cleaning products, and only one slow elevator serves all 3 floors. Also, the exercise room is really tiny, and at breakfast they use styrofoam plates and plastic forks for the little breakfast (sounds picky, but RI spoiled us with actual china plates and metal cutlery).

We would go back for a short stay.

On a road trip from LA to SF, my family and I stayed at this hotel in order to tour a few wineries in the area. The hotel's location is fabulous for touring the areas wineries, as many of the wineries are within a 10 minute drive. The location is the only reason to stay at this property.

Paso Robles is a very, very quiet area. We arrived after 10:30 p.m., and the only dining we could find was a 24-hour Dennys about 10 minutes away from the hotel and a McDonald's. There was nothing in walking distance of the hotel.

The hotel itself feels somewhat old. The elevator had a horrible smell to it - as if it had gotten wet, and never been properly dried and aired out. The hallways to the rooms are open-air - quite cool in the night!

The rooms themselves were fine. They were extremely clean, and in good condition. They were by no means luxurious, but they sufficed for a 1-night stay. The bathrooms were average in size, and, once again, clean but not luxurious. You would not be tempted to linger in a bubblebath here - just shower and bed!

The room also had a mini kitchenette equipped with fridge and microwave - also appearing to be clean and in good condition.

If you need an overnight stop, this hotel will do the trick. The staff was extremely nice and friendly. They had a very small marketplace downstairs where you could buy snacks and tv dinners, etc. But, if you are looking for a romantic or luxurious hotel in central CA wine country, keep looking!
