I brought my husband last night to celebrate his b-day. He had the flat iron steak and I had the duck breast. Both were deliciious... With appetizer, wine, and the dinner, it was affordable.
Good service, the owner comes to see how you are doing, and I'd give the chefs 5 star.
I'd rather have a limited menu, but wonderfully prepared. A place for special occasions to celebrate.

Good restaurant set in The Oaks Hotel. A small menu but had something that everyone would enjoy, from gourmet burgers to full meals. We tried the rack of lamb and filet mignon. Both were outstanding and cooked to perfection. Each came with a starch and vegetable side, and the size of portions were quite large. The wine list is rather small but contained some decent local wines by the glass. Tomato basil soup was excellent. Server was attentive; and the hotel owner even stopped by to see how we were enjoying the meal.

Perhaps we were there on an off night, but of the three things we ordered, one was mediocre, one inedible, and one OK, barely. To their credit, the special we literally could not eat was taken off the tab. (Pulled pork sliders: the meat was cold in places, and hot in others and the sauce unidentifiable; the buns were tough; the slaw was oily and had no crunch.) The crab cakes from Costco are vastly better than the crab cake appetizer (the thing we rate mediocre), and the onion rings were OK (although the blue cheese dip tasted rancid). The server seemed overwhelmed, and (as other have remarked) a decent restaurant should know where the knives and forks go in the table setting. Our water glasses were finally re-filled as we were settling the bill - long after they were empty.

My boyfriend and I normally stay at the Paso Robles Inn when we're in Paso; but based on the TripAdvisor comments, we decided to stay at The Oaks on Christmas day. Although we had stuffed ourselves with cheese, crackers, grapes and two bottles of great Paso wine that afternoon, we decided to split their fixe-prix Christmas dinner. We sat in the bar area, just outside the restaurant and had wonderful conversations with folks at the bar and those going into the restaurant. Their 3 course menu, for $32, started with an Indulge salad with goat cheese, candied walnuts, cranberries, with a basil mango dressing, followed by a perfectly cooked prime rib with sweet potato mash with marshmallows and pecans, and green beans with bacon and shallots. We finished it off with a lovely crème brulee. The chef, the staff, and the hotel owners all stopped by and were just wonderful. I would highly recommend this hotel and restaurant. We'll definitely be back.
