“Lovely!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 March 2014

Carolyn and Roland welcomed us into their lovely house.
Staying at chanticleer was more than simply stopping at a bread n breakfast. Indeed, its a beautiful place set in a quaint place surrounded by vineyard for as far as one can see. But it was Carolyn and Roland's hospitality that made our stay truly special. Roland took us on a tour of the vineyards followed by tasting at a local winery. The breakfast was fabulous, made entirely of local produce - we even saw the hen that laid the egg :)

Thank you for your kind review. Roland enjoyed his time showing you around the vineyard and taking you to taste at our buyer's winery, Grey Wolf Cellars. It was a pleasure hosting you on your stop in Paso Robles and being able to spend some time gettng to know you both.

We arrived after the drive from So Cal ready to relax and that we did!! Our host Carolyn greeted us as soon as we got out of the car with a friendly hello as though we had been friends for years and welcomed us into her home. We stayed in Unit #1 but all 3 units are beautifully equipped. Carolyn and her husband Roland served us a fun pairing of foods and wine from one of the local wineries at the "barn" which is on the property. It's a fun casual and comfortable meeting place where we and the couple we came with ate and got to know our host and their neighbors. What a fun evening. We slept amazingly well and woke to a beautiful Paso Robles morning with many birds busily chirping outside our window. I sat on the deck with a cup of coffee before we went up for a wonderful breakfasts that Carolyn cooked for us. Carolyn suggested a great place for dinner that night and made our reservation for us. After wine tasting all day on the East side of Paso we had a wonderful dinner at La Cosecha in Paso Robles. When we came home we were able to visit with our friends in their room without feeling we were disturbing anyone. Another good nights sleep and great breakfast then Carolyn told us where to find the Farmers Market so we could get fresh produce and meats for cooking a meal at the "barn" that night. West side Wine tasting all afternoon then back to Chanticleer for a home cooked meal that we all contributed to and enjoyed in the warm comfort of the barn as we watched the olympics, played pool and relaxed some more! Day 3 brought another great healthy breakfast and fun conversation. We had to say good bye but we WILL be back!! Thank You Carolyn & Roland for opening your home!

Room Tip: One of our friends had an injured knee which required her to be in a wheel chair. Unit 3 worked per...

It was so nice of your friends to bring you along and introduce us. The Wine Maker evenings are a lot of fun and I think this is the 2nd one we arranged for them (see our website for details.) These are a great way to set the mood for a wine tasting getaway on your first night in. With the new pizza oven/BBQ this it was particularly successful. That and of course the wonderful wines from Villa Saint Julian poured by Lauren. You and your group certainly made the most of the areas Chanticleer has to offer. We look forward to your return!

We have stayed at Chanticleer Vineyard B&B five times over the last 10 years. Each time we have stayed, I think it can't get any better than this. But, Carolyn and Roland keep exceeding our expectations! My husband and I travel extensively for work and pleasure and we have pretty high expectations. Their attention to detail and "little touches" in the rooms and common area are unsurpassed. The rooms are beautiful and the surrounding acres of trees and vineyards are picturesque.

Their B&B is very centrally located near many wineries. Both Carolyn and Roland have gone out of their way to make sure our visit is outstanding, including making restaurant reservations for us, letting us use their fully equipped "barn" and outdoor BBQ area, etc.

We plan to return in the near future and have introduced many of our friends to Chanticleer!

Room Tip: We love room #3 due to the larger patio, but have also stayed in room #1 and enjoyed that room as we...

This is the most charming spot! Breathtaking views. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on our patio and watching deer roam the hillside. Super quiet location that is central to wine tasting, close to the 101 for trips to the 46 east. Wonderful husband and wife owners who think of everything. Made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended for those looking to get away and unwind. We will be back!

Room Tip: Room 3 is fantastic!

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. You're right, for as accessable as we are to Hwy 101 and downtown Paso Robles you can still enjoy the feel of the country. And, located off 46 West it's just a short jump onto 101 to get to the east side.

When we (my husband and I along with our closest friends) planned a relaxing weekend getaway to the Paso wine country we were looking forward to great wine, great scenery, and a cozy B&B. Little we knew that one of the most memorable parts of the trip would be our stay at Chanticleer and the company of Carolyn and Roland.
To begin with, the rooms were as beautiful as the website pictures and then some! With cozy fireplace, the amazing soak-in tub, the comfy bed, and the beautiful patio surrounded by breathtaking views we felt relaxed, exhilarated, and refreshed.
To say that Carolyn is a great chef would be an understatement: She truly is an artist in the kitchen; she cooks with love; and is keen on ensuring you get all your proteins, veggies, and fruit with your breakfast. Roland is the other great component of their breakfast experience: his attendance and stories make for a lively breakfast conversation filled with laughs and great food!
If you thought that's were their hospitality ends you're surely mistaken: Roland's tour of the property, the warm and cuddly company of "bear" and "bonnie" (you have to go there to meet them!), and the barn all decked out in game-room style with bar, pool table, dart board, charming fireplace, horse-shoe, an outdoor (massive of a) barbeque/fireplace will sure get you in the mood to have THE BEST TIME you possibly can!
The four of us are already making plans for our return visit over the next couple of months, once you stay there it would be impossible to not yearn to go back as soon as possible! And this time we're planning on taking other couples with us too!
In short, you have to go there yourself and meet Carolyn and Roland in all their charm, warmth, and perfection acheived in a laid-back style only they know how to emulate. It is difficult to encapsulate our experience in a few paragraphs; hence the adjective "ineffable" for our experience at Chanticleer Vineyards B&B was too great of an experience to describe in words.

Room Tip: All three rooms are amazing. The only think you might want to consider is that you will access Rooms...

Green Features: Carolyn uses all fresh, farmers market produce and veggies. All the products in the rooms were organic and as an architect I can tell you that their practice is very environmentally-friendly.

We were lucky to have found this charming, inviting B&B for our holiday getaway to Paso Robles. The inn is located on a hilltop and affords expansive views of vineyards and rolling hills. The barn, a short stroll away, is a relaxing setting for a game of pool or a barbecue. Delicious breakfasts featured local eggs and bacon -- does it get any better? Carolyn and Roland made us feel like old friends and could not have been more accommodating. They recommended several wineries to try, made reservations for us at Hearst Castle and for fine dining, and shared stories of local lore. And the family pets made us feel right at home. Our stay was just the right balance: both a secluded, romantic retreat, and an enjoyable visit with fine people. We will return soon!

This review is long overdue. We stayed at Chanticleer in late July. The owners are very nice, the room was large and comfortable, and there are friendly dogs and cats on the property. Carolyn made delicious breakfasts both days.

Paso Robles is great for a lower cost, less crowded wine tasting vacation.
