We stayed 2 nights in this luxury property in downtown Paso.
The good: very comfy bed, nice room, (Kingston), nice staff, lovely courtyard with large fireplaces burning in the evening (cozy), walk to many local restaurants
The bad: street noise (especially if you have a front facing room), expensive, the "breakfast" delivered to our door at about 7:30am consisted of 2 cold tiny rock hard muffins and one very small fruit bowl (one slice of orange, one slice of kiwi, 1 miniature apple and pear). The second morning we did not even get a breakfast (there was a large group and we were overlooked according to staff). They need to improve their breakfast or not serve one at all and just be a hotel.!!

We stayed at the Hotel Cheval at the end of August . Upon arrival, we were quickly greeted by a bellman and the aroma of the outdoor wood burning fireplace. The hotel is very charming from the front with a stone finish and a attached patio for the wine bar that allows you to view the comings and goings on the street. The lobby is very pretty and beyond that lies the courtyard that is accessible to only hotel guests with 2 wood burning fireplaces that provide a cozy gathering area. The wine bar has an excellent assortment of wines by the glass. The wine bar staff was excellent - very helpful and friendly.

We stayed in an upstairs room (Rinaldo). The room itself was boring and the seating area was a bit cramped. I was able to view other rooms on the property and most had a seating nook or a juliette balcony and a lot more charm than the Rinaldo. At night it was noisy with a competition from patrons of the brewery shouting and screaming, cars squealing up and down the street and the movie theatre's outdoor talking billboard vying for top honors. Seriously, the noise from the movie billboard is so loud we thought there was an outdoor concert happening !

On the plus side, the bedding and mattress is very comfortable and luxurious. The toiletries (temple spa) are very good and the bathroom itself was large.

The front desk staff is very nice but they are lacking in area knowledge( where certain restaurants are) and computer skills (using yahoo maps or mapquest to download driving directions to wineries). They also dropped the ball when we asked them to coordinate a limo driver for a wine tour.

I like the location of the hotel. There are many good restaurants and wine bars within a few short blocks.

Evening noise is a problem here and there is not much the hotel staff can do about it since it does not come from the actual hotel. I would stay here again only if I had a room in the back .

We spent two nights at the Hotel Cheval in May during the Hospice du Rhone wine celebration. It far exceeded our expectations, from the guest service to the guest rooms to the charming courtyard.

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by top notch service - professional and engaging. After we checked in, they showed us to our room and made sure we had everything we needed. The room was beautiful, very comfortable, and spacious. The decor was tasteful and added to an enjoyable experience.

Departing our room, we found the courtyard a delightful place to sit. There were many sitting nooks and a few fire places to take advantage of. Once there, we were far removed from any outside distractions or noise. Very intimate and inviting.

The staff at the front desk was also knowledgeable about local recommendations for dinner and sights to see in the surrounding area.

We have since stopped by their wine bar that has opened and found a nice selection of wines, including local offerings and a friendly staff to help us.

We'd highly recommend a stay at the Hotel Cheval when visiting Paso Robles.

Paso Robles is a great place to stop to enjoy wine country or during a drive down the California coast. Unlike more established wine areas, everyone will be excited that you've made the trip and will do their best to make you love it. The drive itself from the coast is beautiful - rolling hills punctuated by a gorgeous house every few miles.

Hotel Cheval is a great place to stay in this area. There are only 16 rooms, centered around a courtyard. The rooms are lovely, with big, comfy beds and huge bathrooms (we live in NYC). The staff is wonderful, very friendly. Enjoy the upstairs balcony with a coffee from across the street in the morning, and the outdoor fireplaces with a bottle of wine from the intown tasting room of Edward Sellers. Hotel Cheval is a block from the center square, where there are lots of restaurants and cute shops.
Artisan for dinner is fantastic - don't miss it.

The property was awesome. Located in downtown, walking distance to everything you could want. The owners and staff have gone all out to give absolute elegance and style to an up and coming destination point. The town was fun, full of great restaurants and a perfect stop while making your way up or down the 101. Coming from a California native, "you should stay a night at the Hotel Chevel it is really a cool place."
