Description: Built in the 1920's, this ranch style restaurant and motel is located along Highway 76 in the back county of San Diego. Formerly a sleepy stretch of road, Highway 76 now connects 4 major casino resorts: Valley View, Harrah's Rincon, Casino Pauma, and Pala. Most visitors drive right by the Lazy H, those who do stop in are treated to a step back in time. The dining room is right out of the 50s, the menu is varied and wholesome. Weekends are busiest, when locals come out to dine.

I recently had occasion to revisit the Lazy H and I hate to say the following because it used to be one of my favorite destinations.
They are building some new motel units which are handicap suitable. The room was okay and well suited for my handicaps.
The big disappointment came at dinner. We made a special attempt to be there Friday for the prime rib which used to be worth the drive.
My friend had the steak which was good, but an order of wings were pretty bad. In fact she ate part of one and left the rest.
My meal started with the clam chowder which was fantastic, but then came the prime rib. It was so tough that I almost couldn't cut it with a steak knife. Tough and tasteless. a very bad piece of meat. I should of sent it back to the kitchen. As a result of this we cross the Lazy H off our list. There are many places in Los Angeles that serve a much better prime rib at a comparable price

The Lazy H Ranch is a little bit of heaven located in Pauma Valley, CA. The food is outstanding, especially on Friday or Saturday night when they feature a wonderful Prime Rib. Don't miss the Margaritas made with their own lemons which you can see growing just outside the bar. You won't believe the size, they look like grapefruits. The motel and pool are prewar, but very clean, comfortable and reasonable. There is a hard to describe feeling when you are at the Lazy H, laid back, comfortable, and welcoming. While it is a little out of the way it is well worth a visit.

You like Mad Men. You drink retro cocktails. You miss the idea of a proper dining room. The Lazy H Ranch Motel has a door into 1961. You'll find Henry at the bar, where he's been for 33 years. You'll find outstanding Margaritas. You'll find a "traditional" menu, in that there is no "extract of This in a coulis of That". This is steak, chicken, potatoes. If you need the roar of the modern dining room, a crowd, televisions ... this is not for you. If you'd like to be in the valley and NOT go to and Indian casino to eat or drink, visit Henry and The Lazy H Ranch.

We go to Lazy H all the time. The best 'broasted chicken' anywhere. Old world ambience at a place that was once a destination for Hollywood types. Small, clean, old-world motel and restaurant with dozens of hummingbirds feeding just outside the windows of the bar. We miss our favorite waitress - Marilyn - but the food is as good as it always is.
