Description: LUMA is a neighborhood restaurant in Petaluma's riverfront warehouse district serving lunch and dinner and brunch in a casual atmosphere. LUMA's wood fired oven is the source of an eclectic and creative array of dishes such as cripy brussel sprouts with pancetta, herb roasted chicken over mushroom bread pudding, and the oven roasted pear. Also plenty of thin crust pizza and fresh salads! Enjoy dining at the bar where you'll find a carefully selected list of wines from around the world and beer on tap as well as in the bottle. Easy parking, outdoor seating, kid friendly, a local favorite!

We went to Luma on a Saturday night and it was really busy. It is such a tiny place that we ended up sitting outside, which was a little chilly. The food was very good, but $15 for a vegetarian calzone and $20 for chicken with a few potatoes and asparagus seemed a little pricy. They both were very good, but you can get equally good dishes at other Petaluma restaurants for less money. The only disappointment was the chocolate cake. The cake part was too dry. The ganache in the middle was great, but not enough to save the cake.

This was a terrific find in Petaluma. It was exactly what I'd envision a restaurant in the wine country should be like.
We started with the House Marinated Olives (with citrus, garlic and chilies), then had the Baked Peach stuffed with Blue Cheese, Cherries with a port glaze, roasted in a wood-fired oven. YUM! The peach was especially wonderful - so fresh and ripe. Mouth-watering.
We also had the Fig and Blue Cheese pizza, which had basamic shallots, roasted garlic and arugula on top. This was incredible! All the flavors worked so nicely together.
For a finale, we had the Pear Bread Pudding with port caramel sauce - it was to die for! It was the perfect dessert - not dense, but warm and packed with great flavors. We also had the Chocolate Pot de Creme, but although it tasted great, it wasn't as special.
Service was excellent throughout the meal!
Overall it was a great choice, and we're so glad we went! I just wish it was closer to where we live so we could visit again and again.

We had a very pleasant experience at Luma on a mid-week evening. Although the staff was stressed by being shorthanded, everyone seemed to be adjusted to their customers' needs without making an issue of anything beyond an occasional apology for delays. More of an issue was the lack of, then minimal portions of things like butter or olive oil for the bread, or an offer of fresh-cracked pepper for salads and entres. Meatballs that we had as appetizers were good, but not exceptional enough to justify the price. Two of us had strip-steaks, which were very good, and cooked as-ordered. The vegetable sides were also good. Savory, but some may be put off by the nearly pureed texture. A pizza was rather spare, and was on a crust too much like a cracker where crisp, soggy where not. Their house-made Italian sausage was good, but again, unexceptional where the local competition does distictly better, or at least differently, or from commercial-but-locally-made sausage. A bread-pudding desert was served without warning about how hot it was: my wife burned her mouth seriously enough not to be able to enjoy the rest of it. Overal, the facilities and staff were very good, and the meal was enjoyable, but I wouldn't make a special trip here, when there are so many alternatives nearby. As a neighborhood eatery where you can become a well-treated and satisfied "regular," it fits a worthy need that will satisfy on a longer basis. I'm sure most customers are well satisfied. As a very-long-term resident of Petaluma, I have other proven favorites for my own choice, but would not at all resist coming back when its someone else's choice.

We have eaten at Luma since it opened in October 2010 and keep coming back to the delicious food, neighborhood riverfront ambiance and the warmth of owners Tim & Kate Tatum. Whether it is lunch, dinner or simply a glass a wine we are welcomed like old friends and treated like guests. The menu has something for everyone which explains why you will see business people sitting at tables next to families. Grab a table outside if the weather permits.
