“Perhaps the nicest room we have stayed in”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

We stayed twice at the Madrones. The first night we stayed in the Estate Guest Quarters I. I thought it was the nicest room we have ever stayed in. It's only drawback was it's being upstairs. We also had the good fortune that the larger quarters down the hall was unoccupied.

On our return, a few days later, we stayed in the Garden View. It was again a very beautiful room. There were some minor things that could be done to make the room even better, and the owner was very open to hearing our feedback.

I like the convenience of the breakfast and coffee already provided. Having to eat on the time schedule set by the bed and breakfast owner is not something I appreciate, so I hope that the Madrones keeps its policy of breakfast is already there, so eat when you want.

Anderson Valley is a great place to visit, and offers a lovely and authentic rural experience. We particularly enjoy hiking in Hendy Woods, and driving the Philo-Greenwood road to Elk.

Room Tip: I recommend the Estate Guest Quarters I for a couple.

We spent 3 days in guest quarters 1. Lovely! It was comfortable, clean and well appointed. If we needed anything, Jim was so very helpful! We visited many wineries, went to 2 great state parks and totally relaxed. The restaurant was exceptional! A haven in wine country!

A return customer, I always rave about The Madrones. Each time I've been there it has been with different friends or family. The Madrones never disappoints and steps up to and exceeds the high bar I've already set for who's with me. We've been there in 2 different seasons, each amazing.

The Madrones is heaven within heaven located in the beautiful Anderson Valley.
I will be back and cannot wait!

Room Tip: Any room is stunning. Each appointed beautifully. You can't make a bad choice.

We spent one night in the newest room, the Garden Suite. It is beautiful with two French doors that look out over the garden. What a view you get from the bed! It's private, comfortable and romantic. The nespresso coffee maker, banana bread, juice, yogurt (with granola to sprinkle on it), is a perfect way to start your day.

We enjoyed the tasting rooms located on site, as well as the Stone and Embers restaurant. Excellent all the way around.

The owner is a friendly, gifted decorator and a wonderful guide to the area.

We hope to return soon with our friends and will try to book the 2 bedroom apartment. It's lovely.

The Madrones is a very attractive property with lovely, spacious rooms. Our bed was exceptionally comfortable. We also enjoyed the outdoor areas, which provide tables, chairs and umbrellas for visitors' use.

Once we found our room, we were delighted. We arrived after 6:00PM, so the office was closed. I easily found our room key and directions to the room in the late check-in box, but the directions were hard to follow and there were no signs-- it took us 20 minutes to find the room (the Garden Suite around back) And because I didn't have cell service, I couldn't call the number provided for assistance. Needless to say, it was a bit frustrating. I understand that the Madrones is not a true hotel, but is instead a tasting facility and restaurant that happens to have a few rooms. Even so, some signage might be helpful! But like I said, once in the room, we were impressed with the beautiful decor and the delicious breakfast goodies (yogurt, banana bread, Nespresso coffee pods.) We also appreciated the list of restaurant recommendations, especially since we were there on a Wednesday, a day most restaurants in the area are closed. Overall a great stay, despite the initial hiccup.

The Madrones will be our go-to accommodation in Anderson Valley. First class and very well done, with attention to detail and quality. Great property in a really fun area. Highly recommend The Madrones for a special getaway to unpretentious Anderson Valley.
