“Great setting in Pismo Beach”
Reviewed 22 March 2008

We only stayed here for one night on our trip down the coast between San Francisco and San Diego. Having stopped off for some dinner in San Luis Obispo at the Big Sky Cafe (good for vegetarians), we missed out on viewing any glorious sunsets from the hotel which looks out over the beach and across the Pacific.

Our second floor room was large with standard amenities for US hotels/motels. It was clean, with two large beds, bathroom with bath and shower, and a balcony overlooking the palm trees, the beach and ocean. (All of the rooms have balconies).

We were very happy with our choice of accommodation for the price (less than $100 in March).

2 Brtis on a California 3 week road trip, stopping at the Kon Tiki Inn for one night on the way up the coast.

This is an above average motel/hotel, very clean, functional etc as we have become to expect from accomodation in the US. What makes this place stand out is the glorious cliff top location and views. We arrived mid afternoon in our soft top Mustang (gotta do it properly), and spent a lovely day lounging by the pool (complete with resident duck) before having a rather expensive but lovely sandwich next door at Steamers (again views to die for). A lovely stroll along the beach into town to get an ice cream, a romantic walk back to the hotel whilst watching the sun set..... never felt so relaxed and contented. The accomodation almost seemed irrelevant, the setting is so sublime, but we felt it to be absolutely fine and wish most days we were back there.

After checking rates with a few of the other properties along the beach I pulled in here and was offered a rate of $119 but if I was out by 8:00am I could get $20 off as they were renovating the room starting the next day, as I was leaving early anyway this worked out great. After a great night in the room I am still wondering what it is they are doing to renovate the room as they were fine, a little dated maybe but that is part of the Hawaiian theme of the property. View is fantastic, staff was adequate but all in all a great property.

We were on a round-trip coming from Santa Barbara, going to San Francisco, so just stayed here for one night. We took out the seating in our bedroom (canape) and it had both a relax for your feet. So we opened a bottle of wine, set the chair in front of the ocean view in our room and had the most magnificent sunset ever...

The beach is clean, the hosts are friendly. There is a laundry, ice-machine nearby.

If you're looking for a stay at the ocean for let's say 2-week holiday, then maybe you could pick something more luxureous, but I really loved it. Can't say anything bad of the place!

This hotel/motel is the worst on the Central Coast. I stayed here with my wife and 2 kids and when we walked to the Front Desk, the girl acted like we were bothering her. She never smiled and obviously hated her job. The rooms look like something from the Bates Motel. The entire staff is rude and unwelcoming! The only good thing is that this run down hole in the wall is right next to the beach. We will never stay at the dump again.

We have stayed at the Kon-Tiki for years- my kids grew up loving this place. They enjoyed the proximity of the beach, the wonderful pool with the ocean view, walking out of our room to the manicured lawn, and the proximity of the hotel to rest of Pismo.

We had been a family of four, but recently become a family of
5- after years of loyalty, spending literally tens of thousands of dollars between my immediate family, and the families and friends who came with us, we were informed we were no longer welcome. Our crime? Our amazing trespass? My 3 year old daughter, our "5th" person, had caused us to break their "no more than four" rule. Our reservations were canceled, and the manager called to inform us we would be kicked out if we attempted to stay again.

This is how they treat their best costumers...how will they treat you?
