“Perfct Half Way stop on Pacific Coast Hwy Drive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 October 2013

we were checking one thing off the bucket list, the Pacific coast highway from LA to San Francisco and needed to stop for one night about half way thru the drive. Pismo beach was a good spot and based on trip advisor reviews we chose kon tiki. Glad we did, even our room on the first floor had awesome beach and ocean views. The price was great too, $133/night including taxes. And as others have said you have to call to reserve, no website or other way to do it online. It is walking distance to downtown Pismo restaurants and a great place to watch sunsets or walk on the beach as long as you do not mind the long stairway to the beach.
Another nice thing about driving the highway from south to north is that you are on the inside lane along some of the step cliffs and narrow winding roads along the coast in case anyone in your group has issues with heights. An added bonus is that you can get up and leave the kon tiki mid morning and visit nearby Hearst Castle, (which is worth doing just for the view), and still make it to Carmel or Monterey for dinner easily. (at least on a weekday).
Room was clean, staff was helpful, couldn't ask for much more at this price.

Room Tip: Even first floor rooms have great views so I would think any room would be fine

What an amazing place! While it is definitely not a 5 star hotel, the rooms was spacious, very clean, and quiet. And really comfortable. Staff were pleasant and professional and I appreciated seeing a security staff stroll the grounds. We stayed on the first floor and had un obstructed views of the ocean and the sunset was gorgeous! I really enjoyed listening to the ocean from the bed at night. Perfect. Exceptional value.

On a whim and TA reviews, called and booked two days at Pismo Beach at the Kon Tiki on our driving trip. And what a great move it was!
The previous reviewers were absolutely right with the room cleanliness, beautiful ocean views and satisfying breakfast. But the best part was the rate.....really the best deal in town.
We parked the car for the two days ( except to the hand car wash in Shell Beach, a mile away to clean the bugs off) and walked to get dinner to enjoy on the balcony.......Italian or Thai , a bottle of wine and the gorgeous view and sunsets.

It's off season in Pismo but the Inn is still full, so you might want to phone ahead. Enjoy.

We have spent a couple of nights in Pismo Beach for several years. The hotel we had always booked got a little pricey so we thought we'd try the Kon Tiki Inn. We were very pleasantly surprised. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast room was a good size and had a good selection. All of the rooms are ocean front and you can access the beach from the property. Our room was was comfortable--nothing spectacular but we sure saw a spectacular sunset the first night. We kept the door open all night to hear the ocean. We are planning on going to Pismo in a month and will be booking the Kon Tiki again.

My husband and I are generally not big hotel/motel fans, preferring quirkier digs. We needed a place for 1 night on our way back from Southern California, choosing to wing this 1 night, rather than reserve a room. Thinking a Monday night in September would be open, this strategy seemed to work in our favor. We ended up in a tower suite for the same price as a room without a view at another motel down the road.

2 things that set this place apart: staff and views.Staff was genuinely friendly and helpful across the board. Even the breakfast room attendant was warm & helpful (sort of a rare occurrence). The young man who checked us in was charming, professional and gracious.

The outside of this hotel is quite ugly, but not ugly enough to be funny/kitschy. It would have scared me off, if I hadn't read positive reviews here and on Yelp. The room decor basic and unimpressive as well, but if it keeps the price down, OK.These are the reasons the Kon Tiki doesn't get 5 stars from me. It WAS clean and comfortable however. Oh, it's also set down from the freeway a bit more than the others along this strip of Hwy 1. My husband has supernaturally good hearing, so this was a factor for us. Couldn't hear the road at all.

The pool and spa, access to the ocean, wonderful as well. Grounds nicely maintained.

We spent two nights at Kon Tiki. Fog stayed away the entire time. The hotel is easily found off the 101 at Pismo Beach. It faces the beach from a bluff. The building curves toward the beach at each end and the beach-side property is well landscaped and has a pool. All rooms have full water view. Our end view included five rabbits grazing in front of our patio door.

Room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Check in and out were easy and pleasant. Beach is easily accessed by private stairway of 110 steps! Each way! And the beach itself and its cliffs are spectacular.

I would easily have given five stars except the included continental breakfast was awful. The classic line-up of junk food plus some hard boiled eggs and borderline coffee. Second morning we opted to find our own breakfast at an in town coffee house and enjoyed great coffee and egg sandwiches at the beach.

This place took my breath away. Every room is ocean view...and the view is spectacular. Nothing but the massive Pacific Ocean as far as the eye can see. They also had a fantastic pool. We stayed one night on the ground floor. We slept with the patio door open listening to the Pacific waves roar all night. It is so safe. They have security patrolling the grounds all night. The inside of the room itself is your typical motel standard. It is clean and comfortable. They had a decent selection of breakfast which included make your own waffles. There is not a lot to do at Pismo other than to enjoy Kon Tiki Inn. There is a 109 stairs leading to the beach and there is a good restaurant next to it with amazing views. It is a wonderful place to relax and to be one with the ocean and the beach. The hotel is also priced right. The 3 of just loved this place and it was by far our favorite place to stay on our 5 day road trip.

Room Tip: The ground floor has a little patio and grassy area. The top floors have balconies. Not bad view a...
