Hilton Garden Inn Pismo Beach
Ranked #13 of 29 Hotels in Pismo Beach
Reviewed 26 October 2011

There is no denying that this hotel has nice clean rooms and friendly staff. However, it really disappoints as a Hilton. The hotel is not particularly beautiful (it is a recently remolded hotel that was once independently owned). It claims to have a restaurant, but it doesn't seem like a restaurant...it's location is in a large room that looks like it was designed to serve only motel style continental breakfasts. The buffet breakfast, which was $12.95 at the time of my visit, was only a notch above hot breakfasts that some other hotels serve for free. It definitely was not worth the price.
]
The location of the hotel was horrible...it sits right next to the freeway. It's about a mile away from the beach and from the main part of town. I was given a room with a "view" but it was a view of the pool. There is nothing nearby that one can walk to. Do not rely on this hotel unless you are coming to Pismo with a car.

When one considers the cost of a room with this hotel and compares it to some of the nicer hotels that are actually near town and the beach, it really doesn't pay to stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view in order not to get a room facing the parking lot.

Stayed at the HGI Pismo Beach for two weeks in August with a 20-plus person team. We found the facility to be comfortable, nicely equipped, and quite welcoming. All our rooms had a microwave, small refridgerator, coffee maker, and desk -- very helpful because most of the team had to leave before breakfast in the morning. Food in the restaurant was simple but tasty, the upstairs bar food was perfect for a working dinner. The Library was an ideal place to work in small groups. Most of us really enjoyed the red wines and nice pours from the bar. Kolleen is the best! Why not five stars? We found hte management a bit inflexible with their room rate and refusal to comp the conference room. After all, 20-plus folks for 12 nights is a substantial amount of dollars!

Room Tip: Go for the ocean side -- not quite an ocean view but nice sunsets.

Whilst still a "standard" Hilron Garden Inn, the friendly staff and decent facilities made this a very pleasant stay.

We stayed for the 2nd time at the Hilton Garden Inn at Pismo Beach last night-they have gotten rid of their opening months' kinks and are now delivering a superior hotel product! The rooms are spacious and luxurious, with frig, microwave, flat-panel TV and tasteful decorating throughout. We were lucky to have the one bedroom suite-complete with a separate bathroom and flat-panel TV for our college-bound (Cal Poly) daughter. The bathroom was large and had all the necessary amenities. In the lobby, I was trying to get the Charger football game on the lobby big-screen-the manager couldn't get the game but darn if he didn't try for 5 minutes before we settled for the U.S. Women's tennis championship match (Serena got beat-what an upset!). The jacuzzi and pool were perfect at 100 and 82 degrees, respectively. The minuses were no free breakfast available and the view of the beautiful Pismo coastline was very distant. But the outlet mall was two blocks away and the local beaches were just a 5 minute drive away (try Brad's restaurant near the Pismo pier for great patio dining-awesome clam chowder). A little further, visit Avila Beach for overall beauty or for the adventurous hiker, try the 7 mile spectacular round trip coastline walk from Montana de Oro State Beach to the Diablo Canyon Nucleur Power Plant (O.K.-you stop a half mile short of the plant). Back to the hotel-STAY THERE BEFORE EVERYONE FINDS OUT ABOUT IT-IT IS A WINNER!

Room Tip: I would recomment the suite for faimilies, adding luxury with very little additional charge.

Family of four who stayed at the hotel for 3 nights whilst travelling the Californian coast.

Hotel is situated away from the centre of Pismo Beach and although has an "ocean view", this was far in the distance.

Good points - the room was large with two double beds, fridge, microwave, air conditioning, and modern clean bathroom. Washing machine facilities that were handy. Pool area was nice and not too busy. Close to shopping mall. Avila and Shell Beach nearby were lovely.

Not so good points - was out of Pismo Beach and you would definitely need a car to access the hotel and Pismo Beach itself. Hotel is perched above the Freeway so some traffic noise is likely.

All in all a good hotel for a couple of nights stopover.

My wife & I stayed there 28/07/11 for one night whilst travelling down the 101 for which the hotel is ideally located. Other than that location-wise there is not much else around.
Our booking was pre paid & we had a voucher provided for us by our travel agent which worked fine & the process was smooth.
Upon checking in we found out that we were not entitled to a complimentary breakfast as promised because since our booking had been made the hotel had changed ownership to become a Hilton Garden Inn.
Hilton should have honoured this agreement!
The hotel itself was in good condition if a little bland. The room was clean, well equipped & spacious although it did have a microwave which was bizarre!?!?
Breakfast was fine the next morning, plenty of choice & good quality produce. Also it was reasonably priced.
We checked out the next morning ,all fine until i got home to find the hotel had charged my credit without my authorisation after telling me upon checkout there was nothing to pay.
This could have been a simple mistake granted but it took several calls over the space of the next month from the UK to find someone helpful at the other end of the phone to get this matter resolved. Poor customer service from Hilton. They must do better.

Like other reviews say, this hotel is not on the beach but it takes less than five minutes to go one exit on the freeway to get to Pismo beach and only a few minutes more to get to other beautiful beaches in San Obispo County.
The rooms have been recently renovated, so are in great condition. We had a two room family suite with two toilets and two bedrooms, which had plenty of room for our family of six. The pool and jacuzzi were greatly appreciated by our kids after days of travelling.

The breakfast buffet is copious but not particularly original. Hot food prepared by the kitchen to order was hotter than the buffet and nicely presented.

Our only complaint was that on the couple of occasions that we asked the reception for something (hot water for the complimentary tea and coffee and use of a dvd player) it took at least an hour before it appeared. Having said that, they did find a dvd player so we could watch a film, which was extremely kind.

Room Tip: Family suites are at the end of the corridor and have three double beds and lots of space.
