“Loved to SeaCrest”
Reviewed 28 April 2011

I'm going to put my only negative comment first to get it over with - bring your own beach towels! The towels the hotel provides for the pool are pitiful - they are these tiny little thin hand-towels. It took 2 to cover my cold/wet 2 year old. It takes 4 to cover a chair. OTHERWISE - loved the place. We stayed in the bottom floor pool view room. It was a little more expensive but was so worth it b/c we have 2 small children. We could open the doors to the room and they could run all over the beautiful grass. The pool is gated so it's completely safe to sit and drink coffee while your toddlers run around. Free breakfast was great - it was nothing fancy but everything was fresh and they had fruit everyday and bagels, muffins, etc. Coffee all day long was great and so were the warm, freshly baked cookies. Our room was right by the outdoor patio so we could put our kids to sleep with the patio door ajar and have cocktails by the firepit. It was great! And the hotel engineer was great about filling the propane for the heaters b/c it does get really cold at night there. We used the pool, which was heated and very clean, as well as the hot tubs which were great. The room was clean and roomy and having a small fridge with children is so helpful. Ordered lunch one day from Marie Callendars which is in the parking lot - big mistake - skip it. Very expensive and bad food (sorry this has nothing to do with hotel but thought I'd throw it in). We walked to the beach one morning - a kid was walking up and announced it was like 82 steps when he was done- so it's a little hike but the beach is lovely. Internet and parking were great also. I really have no complaints at all about this hotel except the pool towels and I'm hoping that new towels are in the SeaCrests budget. We loved the area (are from the midwest) and plan on returning again and staying at the SeaCrest.

Dear Alertkm

Thank you for bringing the towel situation to our attention. We placed an order today for larger fluffier pool towels.

The Ownership, Management and Staff of the SeaCrest OceanFront Hotel enjoyed reading your glowing review.

We look forward to your next visit with us.

This hotel is a really nice place to stay. I booked a room for our anniversary. We stayed in the South Wing and had a really nice view of the ocean, something I did not expect to get when I booked the room at the last minute. We we in room #238. I thought it might be a problem because of location of the room, but it turned out to be okay. Very quiet at night. We slept nicely. Must make note though, in the morning, between 7AM and 10AM, it is really noisy around the place.

The young staff at the front desk were amazing. Really on top of things and so polite and nice. You just feel so welcomed.

Love the Seattle's Best coffee in the lobby! They also had fresh cookies when we were there. They did have a free breakfast in the morning, but we did not get a chance to try it.

I love the decor in the room. Simple and charming. Nice flat screen TV, comfy bed, iPod docking station clock radio, Keurig coffee maker with Emeril Lagasse coffee pods, hair dryer, iron and board.

The grounds are beautiful and kept up really well.

This was my first visit, but it won't be my last.

We were contacted a day or two in advance of our stay by the hotel front desk to tell us that there would be some minor work being done on the hotel grounds during our stay, but that it "should not be disruptive," We agreed to stay based on the statement that it was "minor work that should not be disruptive". I was shocked when at 4 a.m. on the morning of our stay there were strange clanging noises coming from what sounded like the room above us. It sounded like it was being remodeled or having some major work done. I called the front desk, but it just rang and rang. Finally around 6 a.m. someone finally picked up the phone. I told them about the noise and they said they would check into it. The noise stopped for about an hour, but picked up again around 7 a.m. I called again and the person at the front desk said they'd check. This time the noise did not stop and no one called back. Finally I just gave up and got out of bed... there were now painters painting the fence around the pool and talking at full volume voices. Its really too bad because the property itself is nice (a little deceiving when you pull up - the front looks old) but the rooms are nice with good ocean views and pleasant grounds. I think based on what I perceive as deception on the part of the hotel management regarding the noise level to expect with the work being done at the hotel, I will not return. They should have either been honest that major work was being done and offer a discount if the guest wanted to keep his/her reservation or cancel it and stay elsewhere.

Dear JACLA

We are at a complete loss to explain your recent experience at our SeaCrest Oceanfront Hotel as described in your TripAdvisor review, posted April 20. Your review indicated you visited the hotel in January and we pre-advised you of our exterior parking lot makeover already underway. But this makeover, in fact, did not commence until the last week in February. In January we were not, at that time, advising guests of the work to come, unless their reservations occurred in late February, March or April.

Assuming for the moment that you misstated your visit time frame, and you stayed with us after the work began, let me unequivocally say that we never have--and would never--allow any workmen on the property at 4 AM or anywhere close to that time, for the simple reason that guests would of course be discomfited being awakened at that hour. During this makeover, which is now virtually complete, no work has been done to any guest rooms or any contiguous surfaces, so a noise "above your room" is a mystery to us.

During the past 8 weeks of work, we have had zero complaints by guests regarding any unusually loud worker's voices or use of any noisy tools in the early morning hours.

By the way, we were working on the very area you mentioned in the review, as you said, overall the property is nice but “a little deceiving when you pull up - the front looks old.” We were working to improve the “curb appeal” adding new plants and changing the entry way of the hotel giving it a fresh new look.

Please return to the SeaCrest soon and let us show you our even more attractive property. We promise you a relaxing, comfortable---and noise free---vacation. Contact me directly to make your accommodation.

There isn't much to say. This hotel is wonderful. Amazing ocean views, direct access to the beach, nice grass and pool area, nicely updated rooms. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait to return! We only planned on staying one night, but loved it so much we wanted to extend our stay. Unfortunately, the hotel was full. I can see why.

The only thing that might be a drawback is it is a bit of walk to the downtown area. A nice walk along the beach, but slightly long if you are carrying a 2 year old. Also, the breakfast wasn't great (stale muffins and pastries,) but at least it was something quick and easy for the kids in the morning.

What a steal! We stayed in a non-ocean view king room for only $79 per night from April 4-8 (Breakfast included-bagels, muffins, toast, hard boiled eggs, cold/hot cereal, fruit, orange/apple juice, Seattle's Best Coffee). We arrived to discover a wonderful view of the ocean. Not front on but no neck craning necessary. The room was very nice and large. We decided to go out to the patio one night to play games and maintenance came promptly to light the fire pit and heat lamps for us. We went to the jacuzzi (one of three all with fabulous ocean views) one day and maintenance stopped by to make sure we were hotel guests because we brought our own beach towels and then they brought us hotel towels to use. The hotel has a private staircase (maybe 30 steps) to the best beach in the whole county. We played bocce ball in the flour soft sand and collected mounds of gorgeous drift wood for crafts. The location is great. We went to San Luis Obispo for lunch and the farmers' market every Th. night 6-9pm (12 minute drive), Avila Beach (10 min drive) for a great PG&E docent led hike, and bike riding around the cute homes in Shell Beach (1 min drive, 3 min bike ride, 10 min walk). There was also a really cool rooftop deck on top of the southern tower with couches and chairs for tanning, playing games, etc.

Room Tip: Most rooms in either tower have an ocean view.

My husband and I highly recommend this resort. It was a relaxing retreat that was just what the doctor ordered. We had beach access and a breathtaking view of the ocean. Everything about this place was top-notch. We will definitely be staying here again.
