After arriving late to the Hotel, it was nice to see the room offering a large space immediately making us feel right at home. Bed was comfy, air con was limited but sufficient. With regard to the grounds of hotel, it could not have been nicer. Direct access to the beach and offering one of the most spectacular sunsets i have ever witnessed (See photos). The breakfast was simple but more than adequate, bagels, Waffles, Yogurt, cereal, fruit juices, Tea and Coffee.

We chose Cottage Inn by the Sea because it overlooked the ocean and had access to the beach. Our room was on the first floor with direct access to a beautiful garden facing the sea. Exactly what we were looking for but ... the room was a bit small ... the bathroom was very small. There was a round table and two chairs by the window but the glass top was not secured and would begin to slide off the table if you were not careful. The bed and bedding were
comfortable but everything was a bit dated. It was basically clean but there was some black mold on the tub ledge. The sliding bathroom door and the shelving in the bathroom was marred. Some of the outdoor furniture was in disrepair ... especially a table that was missing a leg. The setting for the pool and spa were not inviting and the spa jets needed adjusting. It was not really as bad as this sounds ... and the outdoor setting made it worthwhile. The staff was helpful and the breakfast was pretty good. Could be a great place if they took better care of it.

We stayed here for one night as part of a road trip up the coast. By far the best hotel of the whole trip. Very good value for money, rooms were a good size. Quick access to the beach 9as long as you don't mind a few steps). There is a peaceful seating area at the top of the cliffs where you can sit and watch the sunset. This view can also be seen from the hot tub (where we pent the whole evening!) Breakfast was also the best during our trip, with fruit, yogurt, cakes etc, and make-your-own waffles

Upon entering our room we were mesmerized with the quaint fireplace, the vaulted ceilings, the large spacious bathrooms, and the cute towel folding into hearts. As we looked out our window all we could see was a bush. I guess we expected to see the ocean far off in the distance. We didn't have a view room but, we didn't expect to have our 2nd floor view blocked by a giant bottle bush tree. We went for a walk in the garden which was lovely expect for the cigarette butts everywhere. They apparently share the staircase to the beach with Seacrest Resort. Cottage Inn by the Sea quickly paled in comparison to their well maintained grounds. Later that night we went to bed and were dismayed to find that the bed tilted to the right. We tried to sleep more to the left but we kept rolling down the hill to the right. At 7:00 a.m. we finally gave up and got ready for breakfast. We looked at the bed and discover that the frame was placed too widely and the box spring had caved in. Well it must have been like this for a time because the frame of the box spring was splintered into several pieces. We reported to the staff at the front desk. They said they would move us. we checked out the room we would be moved to and discovered it was 1/3 less in size and had no vaulted ceilings. It was closer to the noisy "party pool" and 4 car's lights were aimed right into the window. My husband asked if they couldn't just change out the beds. That was refused. So we checked out and went elsewhere.

Room Tip: There were a lot of dogs barking.

The Cottage Inn is my family's favorite place to stay in Pismo Beach. Overlooking the ocean, with a pool & jacuzzi, it has a charming thatched roof, and amazing "make your own waffles" breakfast! We enjoy being able to walk down the steps to the ocean, and down the beach to to the pier for downtown dining and and shopping. The only time we get in our car is to go to the fun water parks: Mustang Water Slide at Lake Lopez or the Ravine in Paso Robles, or to shop the outlet centers. The staff is friendly, rooms are clean, and there are homemade cookies in the afternoon. A few of the rooms are pet friendly, and one year, we invited a family who brought their puppy. We love the staff and the charming ambience of the Cottage Inn, which is why we go back every summer.

We originally booked a room without an ocean view as were stopping in for one night on way to Carmel By the Sea. When we arrived we decided to upgrade for the ocean view. It was a lovely, large room on the end. Room was very comfortable and nicely appointed in an English Country motif.

Breakfast included. Loved, loved that they had waffle makers so you could make your own. Nice touch.

Hotel is up on a cliff so you do have to walk a bit down to get to beach. Nice location for walking to a couple of restaurants.

Room Tip: Ocean view room on 1st floor have a little patio with chairs. On the second floor only windows - no...

Positive: The Cottage Inn is very clean and well maintained. One of the better establishments for the price that you will pay for ocean front properties in Pismo.

Negative: Staff is very snobbish and uppity and will treat you like a second rate citizen if you aren't the wealthiest looking person in the room. We are your average joes and wear comfy clothes like jeans, shorts, t-shirts and tennis hoes or flip flops. If you happen to be in slacks and polo shirts or a suit and tie you will get top notch treatment and they will bend over backwards to try to rent you a room ahead of the jeans crowd. " I'm just going to help this gentleman"....ummm, yeah, he parked as we were walking in and arrived in the office after us, but he's wearing a suit so I guess that makes it ok. Our money spends the same as his, no matter who you assume has more of it.
Have stayed there 3 times and will not return because the staff is condescending and judgmental, regardless of who is at the desk.
