“Lovely & quiet small beach town.”
Reviewed 30 May 2009

I wanted someplace quiet with nothing to do and I found it! A three hour drive up from L.A. I visited in March 2009 and loved it here! Pretty beaches, yummy restaurants~especially crab bisque at the "Cracked Crab" and everything at "Guiseppe's", plus a nice hotel~"Cottage Inn by the Sea".

“Great, Relaxing time”
Reviewed 6 May 2007

My friend I spent a week at Pismo Beach and had a great, relaxing time. We are two young girls that live 2,000 miles away. We weren't sure what we would be getting into, but it turned out to be a perfect place. We felt very safe and everyone was friendly. We stayed at the Lighthouse Suites, which was nice because it offers two seperate bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Pismo and the surrounding towns are very easy to drive in. I recommend having a rental car so you can drive to the other smaller beaches and restaurants. Pismo is a great, clean beach town that anyone can enjoy.

“Basking in Golden sun and hunting for Sand Dollars”
Reviewed 23 June 2006

Pismo Beach is a reasonably (for the US) historic beach town, with one main street that run parallel with the coast and is perfect distance stop off on the Big Sur between Carmel and LA. The wide sandy beach is ideal for kids, surfing and chilling out as the sun goes down and bathes the town in a golden glow.

This is a popular holiday destination, and stop off point, we had decided to leave Pismo as our only unbooked accommodation night on a 3 week trip that began in Las Vegas and via San Francisco ended in San Diego. After the 10th hopeful stop at a hotel that we were to discover had 'no room at the inn', we found (at last) the Pismo Beach Inn just off the main street with a room at $160. So if you are planning a trip here in a popular time of year then much as you may want to go with the flow and leave it to chance, you may save yourself some time to enjoy the sunset if you book ahead. Also it seemed that last minute on the night deals just did not exist in Pismo and in fact any rooms we did find where suites at over $300 - demand and supply rule!

Worth getting up early as Pismo is one of the only places in the world (so we were told) where you can collect Sand Dollars, these are large round flat shells that naturally grow with a flower patterned on their top and are washed up daily on Pismo Beach, and feasted upon by gulls and other birds - Don't wash them in tap water though as they WILL turn green / yellow!

This is a very relaxed chilled out place to spend some time or stop off on the Big Sur. Plenty of good restaurants - we ate at the Itallian restaurant on the main street that was serving hearty, good value helpings of tasty fresh pasta dishes.

Just down the beach from Pismo is the only place in the of entire US (which given the size of the county just baffled me) where you can drive vehicles on the beach legally- so a big 4x4 gathering most mornings to go dune bashing, with quads to hire too.

This is a cool place to go chill out for sure.

“Yuck!”

There are so many beautiful places to visit in California. This one should be avoided. Nasty seaside town. Beach was a mess.

“Small but fun”
Reviewed 18 August 2004

I liked Pismo alot. I say check out the pier and the little shops but then get off the beat and path and check out Shell Beach the beach is so peaceful and beautiful there. Not so tourist like. But all in all Pismo is a cute place much better than the LA beaches
