I'm suppose some people call this "authentic" and mean is that it's cooked by Mexican people, and has dishes on the menu that you'd find in Mexico. But not every home cook can make great food, and the food here is far from great. What it is is plentiful and inexpensive.

Small nachos for $4.99 would feed 4, and despite their appearance as an appetizer on the menu were brought out at the exact same time as the entrees. OK . . . They're a mass of oily chips piled with meat and sauce and onion and guacamole and . . . No flavor really stands out.

The chile rellenos were sodden with oil. Part of it came from the oil they were fried in, and part from the huge quantity of cheese stuffed inside. Oily melted cheese pooled on the plate, leaching into the rice (flavorless) and beans. The beans were closer to beans "a la olla" but maybe that too was from the heavy dose of cheese melted onto them. They lacked the deep lard-based pork and pintos flavor of great beans.

Shrimp in tomato sauce featured fresh shrimp in a bland sauce.

Lots of families on a Saturday night - so the big portions of cheese laden oily food makes this destination dining for some folks. The restaurant is brightly lit with fluorescents and has simple (and hard) wooden chairs. Beer and wine only.

If you're looking for highly flavored distinctive regional or even pan-Mexican food where the flavors are bold, this isn't the place to find it.
