Not sure if management is new, but seemed confused and amateurish. Office geography is peculiar, almost camouflaged...Road noise is considerable, wifi challenging, and location generic. Advise staying closer to town center, or driving on...

There is no main office, you have to go to the mother lode motel. They didn't give us a key card after payment. We had to wait for someone to come up tithe room to give it to us. We couldn't park in front of our room because cars were already there. Plenty of rooms available for the night but they lumped four separate parties next door to each other. They didn't give us an internet code, we tried to call the front desk but the room phone doesn't work. Had to walk to the other motel to find the code and even still the wireless connection resets every minute or two causing u to relog in.

We picked this little motel based on cost and previous reviews. Its a bit of a walk to Main St. but very doable if its daylight and not with children. I would not recommend walking at night. We found out that there is a homeless camp not far from motel and a soup kitchen nearby. The rooms were clean and mattresses looked to be in brand new condition. I LOVED the big redwood trees that surrounded the back of the motel. It is located off the hwy, so a bit noisy. It was a fun experience in Placervile.

When we couldn't get a room at one of the B&Bs on short notice, we decided to try this little motel. A good choice. Room was small, but very clean, and had all we needed. With the money we saved, we had a nice dinner at Bricks. It's not right in town, but just a few minutes drive. Our only complaint - in room 17, the hot and cold water are reversed in the tub/shower. You waste a bit of water figuring that out. We would certainly stay here again.

My husband and I spent three two nights and will return again. First, the owners are very nice and helpful both over the phone and in person. The room is super clean!! The recent remodel is great with tiled bathroom. The bed is really comfortable. I have nothing negative at all to say about this place. For the money, it is a GREAT DEAL. We stayed last year at another historic hotel in the area and this place was cleaner and nicer. The location is good too. It is a five minute drive into downtown. Perfect all the way around. See you next year for the antique street fair again.

When we arrived the owner upgraded us immediately with no requests on our behalf ( probably because it was a Wednesday). It was a nice surprise! The rooms are small, but prefect for two people. The bathroom is tiled, the pillows are the softest, most comfortable pillows I've ever had at a hotel, and everything was very clean. The only complaint I have is that it's quite easy to hear your " neighbors". When their alarm went off, I woke up too. that's nothing that a good pair of earplugs can't fix though. This is a much nicer place than, say, Motel 6 out Best Western, which we paid twice as much for on the same trip ( different cities).

Look, if you are looking for a place with 2-4 stars, keep looking. But, if you are looking for a place to sleep and then move on, this is it! I found that the reviews are accurate for the Gold Trail Motor Lodge/Motel in Placerville, California. The place has been recently redone. My only complaint was that the knobs on the air conditioner were broken and I had to compensate and figure out how to "fix" the knobs. No big deal. The owners/managers are accomadating and friendly. They had an onsite person that made sure that you have everything that you need. If you want a Best Western experience, go to the Best Western in Placerville. This place is a lot like the motor lodge that my wife and I stayed in San Francisco. The rooms are small, much like the original motor lodges/motels. BUT, it's clean, quiet and a short distance to the downtown area. For the price of $47 plus tax, it's all I needed. There's a pool next door @ the other motel that's the sister motel. The pool looked clean and inviting, but I didn't try it. There's a microwave and refrigerator in the room and a queen bed. Enough room for me to settle in for the evening and have a good nights rest.

Room Tip: The manager/owner gives you a good room....Just go with it!
