“Stay at the Wharf Master's Inn”
Reviewed 31 July 2013

We stayed at the Wharf Master's Inn on our motor cycle journey up and down the coast. We loved the room; quaint, cute, romantic super clean. Has a nice jacuzzi and fireplace that was wonderful after a day on the bike. The view was nice and you could easily walk to dinner or breakfast. Although breakfast was provided which was very nice. The innkeepers were both super nice and even had a nice wine selection that you could purchase for a reasonable price to take back to the room.

My first impression was "there's no way this room is worth $175"' and it went downhill from there. I really liked the Innkeeper and the effort to make it nice, but they have an uphill battle. It's marketed as a luxurious, romantic, resort destination Inn, but it's not there yet. The fake electric fireplace, the dated decor, the wi-fi that doesn't work in the rooms. Brass trim on plumbing fixtures? That was popular for a short time back in the '80s wasn't it? I thought the spa tub in our room was old and noisy. When the folks upstairs ran theirs for an hour in the middle of the night, it sounded like a garbage disposal was running in our room. The "feather bed", well... enough said, I didn't hate it as bad as I'm making it sound.

This was a surprisingly nice stay. For $135.00 per night I did not expect much but it was really very nice. We had a partial ocean view with deck (but the Mendocino climate makes that nearly always useless). It was a steep 2 storey climb to our room, but there are several ground floor rooms. The room was nicely equipped with a king bed, jacuzzi, 2 comfy arm chairs and an electric fireplace that provided the heat. If you show your room card to the restaurant below the hotel (The Pier House) you'll get a free glass of house wine -- nice!

The property looks like it's being updated, which it could use. The only complaint I have is that I hope they upgrade their bed linens and use a real duvet cover rather than 2 sheets.

We had a short weekend stay here, and it was a fun and relaxed weekend. We got the "Romantic and Peaceful" room.

* The guy at the concierge was extremely polite, accommodating and helpful, and patiently answered our questions and made suggestions for things to do and places to eat.

* The room itself was clean and airy and had an awesome Jacuzzi with piping hot water.

* The bed was comfy and the fireplace was more than warm enough.

* The view was pretty cool, albeit not the most outstanding one in the world. The beach here is a rocky one, but you can drive a few minutes up the road to get to beautiful sandy beaches at the state park nearby.

* If you visit here, go to the lighthouse at sunset. Make sure you have plenty of warm clothes and maybe a portable chair to snuggle in with someone ;)

* They have wine for sale at reasonable prices in the office, and movies to rent too. You might want to take a laptop and a cable to connect it to the TV along though - we didn't see a dvd player there. Wine glasses and opener is available in the room.

Room Tip: The more you spend, the better the view :) I think "Romantic and Peaceful" was pretty good...

Our room had beautiful ocean view and was one of the most comfortable rooms we ever stayed!! Would recommend to all! Very relaxing. The actual town could use a little fixing up though it was quaint but run down. There also is a lack of restaurants beside the one right

We stayed on one night on a short trip up the coast. We had a room with no stairs to use to get to the room on the water side of the Inn. The View was as good as the next floor above us.
The bed was comfortable. The room was clean. Management was helpful, pleasant and accommodating to the requests we made. The breakfast was standard hotel fare with waffles and pastries.

This is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world! It was our 10 year anniversary and we were very lucky that the lovely Wendy checked us in. She gave us a room with the most GORGEOUS view I have ever seen! Wendy also went out of her way to make us comfortable, and I can't say enough about her kindness and gracious manner. This hotel is so unique. It's luxurious and quiet with a boutique feel to it, and it is run so professionally with great attention to details. So you get the best of the B&B feel but with the exceptional standards you find at larger hotels. Housekeeping did an AMAZING job every day, even sweeping off the balcony chairs. I sat out there a lot, so I was really grateful that the area was clean so that I could enjoy the spectacular view. We will be back! Loved it!!!
