We traveled to Point Arena just to stay at the lighthouse. The views from the front and back of the room were absolutely stunning. Our room had a woodstove and a full kitchen so it was nice to stay in with our group and cook dinner nightly. It's a great home base location if you are exploring the coast. Just remember, it's a peninsula jutting out into the ocean so it's generally windy and a tad bit chilly. Make sure to explore the surrounding area for some beautiful ocean and cliff views.

Wow! That about sums it up! My wife LOVES lighthouses. When we were searching for hotels on the coast this came up and we were amazed that this existed!
Let me start by saying this is NOT a hotel. There is no maid service and no restaurant. The light house is about 2 miles off of Highway 1, and is therefore very secluded. The rentals are in the gated area of the lighthouse, so after hours the general public is not allowed in.There are 4 units all together, and when we were there, there was only one other occupied unit each night.
We opted for the Keepers Room. This is a studio type room. It has a queen bed, a table and chairs and a bathroom. The room also has a gas-log heater that looks like an old stove. There is a microwave, a small fridge, a coffee maker and a a TV with DVD player and Satellite
receiver and available Wi-Fi
Small and cozy. The front door looks out right at the light house and the window over looks the cliffs and the coast. This room was amazing! The room was in good shape and the bed was comfortable. When we were there it was cold, foggy and windy, but the room stayed fairly warm. We ran the gas-log heater more for the ambiance, but once it kicked on, it warms up fast! When we got there, there was a split of wine and 2 chocolates waiting for us! It was a nice way to start our first night there!
As I mentioned, there is no house cleaning service. There is a number to call if you need clean towels. While we were there we were not able to connect to Wi-Fi, and the Satellite only displayed the channel info, and never the actual channel. We arrived and left after hours, and since we were enjoying the seclusion and lack of connectivity (since it's so far from the road, we had minimal to no cell service), we never opted to call about the TV or Wi-Fi, so I can't say if they would have fixed it quickly or not. The coffee pot came with 2 filter bags of coffee, each enough for about 1 cup. I had called ahead and asked, so I was prepared - if you want coffee, bring your own filters and grounds!

This is truly amazing. The views are breathtaking, the seclusion is wonderful, and the room was cozy. If you are in the area, make it a point to stay at least one night!

What a wonderful surprise to stay at Wharf Master inn. The room is very well put together. Fireplace , jacuzzi tub, balcony with a view of the ocean. Then add in tall pine trees on the hillside an you feel secluded from all the hustle of towns. Just a short walk to a nice restaurant an little gift shop. Mendicno is a beautiful area with ocean views an winding roads, lots of artsy spots to explore. The price was great for all they offered. Have paid twice their amount at other places without the views. Shhh don,t tell them, don,t want them to raise the price.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a view.

My fiance and I spent three nights in house #2. The place was actually larger than we needed, but we loved our stay. There was a birds nest just outside the back door. The seals were all over the rocks by the gazebo, and we watched a heron pull a mole right out of the ground in the back yard! The last night we were there we were the only ones on the property. We went to nearby Schooner Gulch and saw an otter eating on a rock. While at Bowling Ball Beach we saw seagulls eating a dead octopus. The entire stay was wonderful!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are just about the same!

You will thank me when you see the Arena Lighthouse for yourself! Well worth a side trip if you're on Highway One between, say, Mendocino or Fort Bragg, and Jenner, while enjoying the Pacific Coast Highway through Northern California.

Take note of the limited operating hours!
Tour the Point Arena Lighthouse and Store:10:00 to 15:30 everyday in Winter, 16:30 between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend. Closed Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day Only.

The best views are from the 35m (115ft) Tower, which is your reward for the 135 step spiral stairs. There's a Docent to tell you more, and you can step outside on the balcony! The Lantern Room glass is usually dirty (US Coast Guard cleans it about once per year).

Spend some time in the museum, and see the famous 1st Order Fresnel Lens, over 2m (6 ft) in diameter and weighing more than 5,400 Kgs (6 tons). Also, the now discontinued Fog Horn air system, Tank, Compressor, and old electrical panel.

I haven't stayed at the rental houses (yet). The Tower and Museum are about the only attraction nearby.

We didn't stay in one of the rentals but we did visit the light house and museum and went on the lighthouse tour. He took the 144 steps to the top of the lighthouse, I didn't make it. But he took plenty of pictures to show me. Apparently this is the closet point to Hawaii. Another fact is, The air off the ocean is the purest air you can breathe. We love visiting lighthouses and this was another great story and lots of history.

Room Tip: dress warm its really windy there

We stayed one night at the Point Arena lighthouse. we stayed in the smallest room, and our door looked right out to the lighthouse. It was the Keeper's room. It was small, but very clean, and we had the best view. Our window looked out the beautiful ocean and our door was all glass and we woke up looking at the lighthouse! It was so cool and we, along with a few other people, were the only ones on the grounds in the evening and morning. There is no food or breakfast so be prepared. We loved the experience and would def recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: If you want a little kitchen and more room, then don't stay in the Keepers room, but we were the...
