Point Reyes Country Inn & Stables
Reviewed 8 January 2009

I have stayed here twice with a group of friends and plan to go back again this year. We are horse people and there isn't a better place in California to travel with your horse. We have booked the big room above the stables each time. The horses are either stabled directly below you or in the paddock outside. Horse accomodations are safe and secure with stall/paddock combos, stalls only and larger paddocks.

The Stable Room is so much fun. There are three rooms that can house 8 people, two bathrooms, two kitchens and an area in the front room that became the bar. My first trip was a girl's weekend with the horses and we had such a nice time. The place is certainly big enough and laid out well enough that housing 8 gals was no issue.

My only complaint was that on the second night someone staying in the Inn had a noisy horse that was freaking out below us. We kindly asked them to move it to an outside paddock so we could sleep, but they refused. Eventually the horse calmed down but the lack of sleep and attitudes of the horse owner put a little damper on an otherwise perfect weekend.

With that said I will be booking again! Breakfast does not come with the price of the Stable Room...just for those staying inside the Inn. But you have TWO kitchens so it is super easy to make your own gourmet breakfast.

We've twice stayed at this B&B. It's an amazing serene setting, the rooms are simple and tasteful, breakfast was tasty and the innkeepers couldn't be friendlier.

I think I had the best nap of my life here, the beds are very comfortable with high quality sheets, feather comforters, etc. The cool air coming in through the windows and the quiet countryside led to a very relaxing and comfortable stay.

I had a slight reservation about the cleanliness, but to be honest, considering the positives, it was a minor flaw.

I don't regularly stay in B&B's, but that is the way to go in the Point Reyes vicinity. The room was clean, quiet and very spacious. The room had a very large bathroom and queen size bed. Beautiful antiques were also displayed. There is a balcony off the deck, on which you can enjoy your wine and cheese.

I was travelling solo and I found the other guests to be very friendly. We usually relayed our "day before" stories over the great breakfast. Most were repeat guests that have stayed there before. The innkeeper ,Tom , is very friendly and not intrusive at all, but if you need anything he is there to help.

If you are there to relax and tour the park , this is great place to stay. From the inn, you can take many great day trips in the park-hiking, swimming, touring, shopping etc. and yet at night it is quiet and yet close to the main attractions of Point Reyes Station, Olema, Inverness and Tomales Bay.

The natural beauty of the area is great and the mix of people touring is very eclectic- bikers, horse people, hikers, surfers, families and singles, from all over

I was very pleased with my stay and time spent at the Inn

Since I've long looked to Tripadvisor and people's comments to set my EXPECTATIONS for places I go/stay - here is my 2 cents:

*The Inn is tucked in - has a gravel driveway leading you to their automatic gate. The home is lovely and updated with beautiful flowers through out.
*It seems to have been recently updated/remodeled -
*You walk in and there is a living room to the right and then the upstairs leads you to some of their bedrooms.

*It's all very quaint, but all too close for comfort I would say - Felt like we had to be on our "best behavior" A couple of times, we could hear our neighbors talking, and also when we were out on the balcony, the neighbors came out as well. So it was a bit Awkward due to the proximity. ....Needless to say - this is NOT a good place for folks that are on their honeymoon or newlyweds, or anyone even thinking of doing anything "noisy" ;) Rooms are somewhat small i thought so be ready for that.
* Having said that - it is a lovely place to book - if you are no frills or thrills - to just rest your feet, read, (no t.v. cell or internet signals) - and the breakfast is outstanding. Don't miss it. That or if you have horses - you get to sleep across the way from them. We appreciated the cleaniless, warm decor, breakfast, friendliness and the fabulous port available in the lobby/living room area.
* Tom the host is absolutely friendly & resourceful and can give you the best suggestions on maximizing your stay.
*Definitely worth it for the money - However, wished there was a little more privacy and the rooms were a bit bigger. We will definitely return there now that we know what to expect.

Booking on the B&B's website, we arrived on the start of Memorial Weekend. It was after check-in and Tom (the owner) left the front door open and a welcome letter on the desk, providing directions to our room and itinerary around the place.

Opening Room #4, we saw a queen size four-post bed (so comfy!), an antique dresser, two reading chairs, wine glasses, and a private bathroom. The room had many large windows, allowing us to gaze far into the hills.

We propped down our stuff and settled in to ... the quietness! It definitely took some getting use to, without the hustle & bustle of a City. We could hear the wind chime of a neighboring house, probably 50 yards away! On the balcony, we enjoyed wine, read, and heard and saw many birds.

We also propped down in the living room area with high ceiling and lots of natural light ... perusing through various books. Outside, there's a large patio area where other guests conversed with friends ... and the stable is viewable from this location.

At 9am every morning, the smell of cinnamon buns drifts into our room. We join other guests downstairs in the living room area where dining tables are also located. We help ourselves to coffee, tea, and orange juice. Tom or his wife (apologies for forgetting her name) would bring delicious home-cooked breakfast, by the plate, to us. We thoroughly enjoyed this as it's just perfect to start off a day of hikes.

The only thing that concerned me was the towels, although I'm sure they were clean and are very soft/comfortable, looked old and used.

Cellphone reception is sketchy but no worries, Tom provides a in-house land-line with free long distance. The location is a 3min drive to downtown and very close into Pt. Reyes National Park .. or up to Marshall for Tamales Bay. No TV, no radio, no wireless ... just enjoy the company of your travel companion and their hospitality, what a thought!

Thank you, Tom for sharing your lovely place!

Tom, our gracious and congenial host, and Barnabus, his sweet dog, took good care of my husband and me during our three-night stay. We enjoyed loads of privacy and quiet, along with sweeping views of spring-green hills from the windows and balconies of our second-floor room with its comfortable queen bed. Tom was attentive and helpful, but gave us plenty of space, too. Delicious breakfasts were served at the very civilized hour of 9:00 a.m. We enjoyed evenings by the fire with port, books, and classical music. No TV, computers, phones, or clocks to disrupt our experience. We'll return!

This is a nice b&b in the Point Reyes area, but it could be a lot better. The rooms are good, it is off the road and quiet. But it needs a really good cleaning, especialy dusting. Dust was on all the furniture in the common rooms, dead bugs were under the tables and no one had vacumed under our bed in a really long time. The innkeeper made a very good breakfast but wasn't very friendly. I would go back because the location is nice but only if it was a little cleaner. The area of Pt. Reyes is really good for hiking and being outdoors.
