A frequent business traveler to the Richmond/Berkeley/Emeryville area, I discovered this gem on Travel Advisor. What an outstanding experience! Secured parking across the street, an superb Hotel Mac Restaurant (and bar). The rooms are each uniquely decorated with impeccable taste with equal care given to function. Free bottled water and beverages from the in-cabinet refrigerator. Little Louie's, another restaurant that offers excellent food AND service was an unexpected surprise too ($5 coupon for breakfast included for each day). I've already booked another room for my next trip three months from now. Sophisticated, charming, friendly, warm, cozy and very convenient to the area.

Room Tip: There are several different types of rooms each with its own unique name. The images online actuall...

This is an AWESOME Historic property. I never knew the town of Point Richmond even existed. This is a totally restored 3 story brick hotel with excellent bar and restaurant on premisses. Irene, the manager was just wonderful. Never had such a pleasant checkin experience. Sat and chatted for 30 min. Little Louie's Deli across the street ($5 coupon) is a great place for breakfast or lunch.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main building, 3rd floor.

Went with a group for my nephews graduation. Great ambiance and food. The filet mignon was to die for. Everyone was happy with their meal. In a real cute little neighbor that has been yuppified.
Didn't stay at the hotel so can't say how the rooms are. Worth visiting if you are in the area.

Spent 3 nights in this small hotel, located on the third floor in an old building in downtown Point Richmond. Spacious room, very comfy bed, friendly hosts, quiet. Great breakfast across the street at the Cafe Louie--hotel provides a $5 voucher good for either a continental breakfast or towards a larger meal. Cafe had wonderful food. Would definitely stay here again.

This is on old hotel that has been renovated to boutique standards. An Oasis in Point Richmond. that is worth making the effort to get to. The hotel is operated by soon really great women and just couldn't be nicer that personally work to make you stay the best it can be. The restaurant is amazing and I have never had an average meal - the food and service is great. May have had the best steak I have ever eaten there and it was cook perfect. These people care and they produce. I never hesitate to take friend, family or business client there to dinner. If you stay at the hotel you get a coupon for a continental breakfast at Little Louie's across the street which really deserves it's own review. But I will let you know this is not to be missed. The pastries and breakfast items are really really good. They have spoiled me to that I will not eat corn beef has anywhere else but here. Done deal the absolute best. Any one that brags about their hash or it is their signature breakfast dish need to come here and eat. So do not stay at the hotel and not cross the street to eat at Little Louie's. Lunch is also fantastic! The sandwiches are great. just don't eat the free continental and not try one of there other breakfasts or if you do come back and do the other. I have been coming to this hotel and restaurant and Little Louie's for at least four years and will certainly continue to do so.

Room Tip: Upgrade when possible and stay in the main hotel building. Eat at the Mac restaurant and eat at Litt...

My wife and I like staying at the Hotel Mac in one of their comfortable rooms whenever we visit the bay area. The village of Point Richmond is a cozy quiet little town that provides a nice contrast to the loudly active city of San Francisco. The Hotel Mac has a delicious dinner setting, a fine hard wood full bar with plenty of fine wines to choose from. Breakfast is served across the street from the hotel in a bakery/cafe that has a good selection for every taste. The Larkspur Ferry Terminal is an 8 mile drive West down the 580; offers free parking for a pleasurable boat ride into San Francisco landing at the Ferry Terminal and easy access to public transport for touring San Francisco.

Room Tip: Check the Hotel Mac website to view each room online to make it easier to make a room selection.

We have stayed at the Hotel Mac in Point Richmond before and had always liked it. Our last visit in June, 2011, met all our expectations. We stayed in the Highcliff Room for 4 days while visiting our daughter and our first grandaughter. The room is beautifully appointed and meticulously clean. It was not large but we mostly slept there so it was more than adequate. The bathroom was large and clean. Everything was so well kept that it looked like it had just been remodelled.

Street parking is limited but the hotel provides parking in a locked lot for the guests.

The "complimentary continental breakfast" is provided as a $5 coupon per person per day for breakfast at Little Louie's Cafe just across the street, which is owned and run by the same local family which owns the Hotel Mac. The fresh bakery and fruit were plenty for me. My husband usually went with a heartier breakfast and everything he tried was great. The Cafe is cute and the staff was attentive. I have heard service may be slow on busy dyas but we did not experience this. The bran muffins and fresh orange juice are to-die-for.

Point Richmond is a neat neighborhood with a small town feel. There are 14 restaurants in the few blocks of "downtown." We did not have time to explore all the interesting shops - playing with our grandbaby was our primary occupation.

The only down side to the Hotel Mac was the noise from the restaurant dumpster. We had our window open for fresh air and even though we were on the third floor, the noise from the restaurant throwing glass bottles into the dumpster several times late in the evening was quite annoying. Then, about 5 AM one morning, there were dumpster divers digging through the trash to get the recyclables. Another morning, the trash truck came at 4:30 AM. I'm not sure how they could reduce this noise - maybe request that the restaurant hold throwing out the glass until when they open the next day and ask the trash truck to come later.

We are going in August and this time we will stay in a suite in the Annex. This is a newer building down the street, adjacent to the parking lot. We have been warned that the noise form the trains switching on the nearby tracks may be louder in the Annex but I'm sure it won't be as bad as the glass bottles breaking in the dumpster.
