“Worth the drive from Carlsbad”

Considering San Diego is a meca of golf courses this one is worth the play. The playing areas whether the fairways, greens, rough and the sand traps are all in excellent condition. Some tee boxes are under repair but I tee my ball making that a mute point. The holes are interesting, challenging and greatly appealing to the eye no less a golfers eye. Had food ready for us at the turn and the refreshment cart comes around at a perfect pace. Bill from NJ

“Stunning course”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2013

We had a group of 15 that went out & played this course today. It was fantastic. It is tough, but not too bad. The homes around the course are unbelievable. I would have rated this 5, but a number of the tee boxes are under construction. After golf, we had lunch in the clubhouse & it was excellent. Great sandwiches, & salads. Not your typical clubhouse fare.
I would recommend this course to everyone.

“Beautiful course”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2013

Golf is exquisite. Tuesday, during the summer, is burger night. Reservations required. Not to be missed. Fabulous outdoor dining. If Chef has ice cream on the menu, you must indulge. He makes it himself and it is to die for.

“A hidden gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2013

Maderas is a bit of a hike from downtown San Diego but it is worth the drive. It's a newer course that has a very mature feel to it. The holes wind there way through several ravines offering much elevation change, some views and tight fairways. It's also easy to get distracted by some of the palatial homes that peer down on the course.

What we really enjoyed about the course is the seclusion - it's quiet and you really don't see any of the other holes as you play the course. The greens are also extremely tough thanks to severe undulation.

You are far enough away from the ocean to get much warmer temperatures and the day we played there was little breeze.

My beefs: the price - $170 per player - and at that amount you think you would get GPS in the golf carts. The staff also didn't strictly enforce Maderas' much hyped 4 hour 30 minute round. We never saw a couse marshall after the seventh hole. The group in front of us was brutal with their pace of play.

Maderas could be a five star course if they would work on the little things.

“Great experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2013

Since we couldn't get tickets to Augusta, we played here instead. I decided to rent clubs rather than bring my own. Amazing to get a rental set of A shaft graphite Callaways. That alone made the trip worthwhile. Ranger staff was very friendly and gently prodded the pokey foursome ahead.
Course was in good condition for this time of year. If you need flat lies, this is not your course. Scenic views abound.
