What you need to keep in mind is that Quincy is a small mountain town and luxury accomodations are not found there. For $59/night the Lariat Lodge is a decent value. The room I had was clean, except for the carpet which I'm sure sees its fair share of people coming back from hiking and fishing trips. (you only come to this area for outdoor recreation) The bed was way too firm for me (a little softer than the floor) but for people who like a firm bed it wouldn't be a problem. In general the room was worth the price and certainly acceptable for anyone who just needs a place to rest after a day of outdoor fun.

I was perfectly comfortable with the Lariat Lodge. Yes, it's not fancy, but my room was clean and the desk clerk was friendly and helpful with restaurant suggestions.

The bed was fine, and the wi-fi worked great (and was secure). Guests can park right outside their door since this is a 1-story motel. The place was fairly busy, but not noisy. The location isn't prime, as it's a few miles east of downtown Quincy, where most of the restaurants and stores are. Still, it's not far from a supermarket and a couple of restaurants, one of which, the Mill Creek, was open late and served a satisfying meal.

Overall I would recommend this to anyone looking for an inexpensive place to rest up before exploring the Sierra, but not to anyone looking for luxury or on-site activities.

Lariat Lodge works if you just need a very basic room with out any frills. The atmosphere in the room was a bit depressed. Cinder block walls and pool on the highway make this less than ideal. The price point competition, in general doesn't have a whole lot to offer beyond the Lariat, however, I would take the Ranchito Motel edged it out slightly. Your best bet, for about $10 USD more, in my opinion, is the Sporting Inn. Some may not like the idea of sharing a bathroom but this place is gorgeous. Further, you get a real home cooked breakfast in the morning, none of that continental aka "They'll call it breakfast" stuff.

I feel confident about this and my other reviews as I am researching an upcoming cycle trip in the area.

Cheers!

This motel is rated with 1 star in the AAA book. The room did have the basics - decent lighting, clean bathroom, comfortable bed & better towels than I expected in a motel in this price range. The room was very small w/ dated furniture and a very cheap, worn carpet. Although the bathroom was quite clean, there were cleanliness problems. Food from a previous guest was left in the refrigerator, the clock radio was very dusty, there were a few dirty cobwebs in an open space behind the door & the inside edge of the door was very dirty w/ fingerprints. There aren't a lot of good lodging options in Quincy so I would consider staying there again if I just needed a place to sleep.
