We went for Thanksgiving this year, a totally new way for us to celebrate the holiday. Three adults and one small child all had a wonderful time. It is such a pretty setting wrapped around a golf course. The communal areas, patios, pools are kid friendly, pet friendly and accessible.
The Thanksgiving Dinner Buffet, also kid friendly with little tables and activities, was delicious albeit expensive. The whole place had such a nice vibe. The parking was convenient to the rooms. The little walk to a shopping center was a nice diversion and easy to go for coffee or dinner. Splashtopia helps everyone find the child within & 3 generations "rafting" down the endless river is a way to make memories!

Room Tip: I love the first floor for the patios and easy access, but you trade that for the noise of kids running around above you.

We stayed here as part of a Virgin fly drive holiday. The resort was well maintained and the room was clean and comfortable, with a good view of the golf course. The gym was well equipped. There was a good choice of restaurants nearby. We visited the Joshua Tree National Park and rode on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. An enjoyable stay.

Cannot recommend this place to stay -- My children's room was broken into while my family was a dinner at the resort. My children return to their room after dinner to find the patio door to their room broken open - lock snapped off. Basically everything of value (computers, jewelry, headphones....) was stolen from their hotel room. Amazingly, the Hotel took NO responsibility for this incident. And Hotel management on the night of the theft could not have been less helpful. I'm just glad neither of them was in the room when the robbery took place.

I cannot recommend a Hotel/Resort like this that did not protect its guests and take some responsibility for actions on their property. I stay at 4 and 5 Star Resorts all over the world, because I expect a high level of service, security and safety for my family. When things happen on resort property, I would expect a high level of professionalism befitting a top resort and expect them to stand behind their service. I was amazed how lackadaisical the Resort management was on the night of the incident and since. I have never even received so much as a letter from the hotel. Their insurance company says nothing is covered by the resorts policy.

This incident has traumatized my children - I'm sure they never forget coming back to their room, seeing that it had been broken into and seeing everything they had, stolen. I can only imagine what could have been, if they had come back early from dinner and caught the robbery in action.

It's too bad, this resort has a lovely setting - but could never recommend this Resort or the KSL Chain of Resorts to any of my friends if this is the way they handle incidents like this. Take your hard earned dollars elsewhere.

Room Tip: Take a second floor room -- makes it more difficult for somebody to break into your room.

We just returned home from four nights at Rancho Las Palmas. We had a great package rate called "Stay Four." You pay for three nights and the fourth night is free. We were in the desert two years ago for a wedding and were disappointed with the place we stayed, a poorly run vacation club. This time we wanted a full-scale resort and overall we were very pleased with Rancho Las Palmas. A former Marriott, the sprawling property sits on 30 acres and has a 27-hole golf course on site.
The rooms were spacious and well appointed (but I would have loved shower gel instead of bar soap). Each building has its own parking so we drove directly to our rooms (we were traveling with another couple) and handled our own luggage. We were in Buidling 6 which was ideally located near the main building, restaurants and the resort's tranquility pool.
Before leaving home I actually received a call from someone at the hotel who informed me that the main family pool had sprung a leak and would not be operational during our stay. With apologies for the inconvenience were offered a full refund without penalty if we chose to go elsewhere. The phone call and offer were very much appreciated, but since we weren't traveling with young children we weren't planning on spending any time at the family pool, which has a lazy river and water slides. However, because of the family's pool closure, children were welcome at the resort's tranquility pool, normally reserved for adults.
Regarding the resort's restaurants, with so many good local eateries we never tried BluEmber for dinner, but we dined on their patio every day for lunch. Lunch, normally ho-hum, was excellent. The flat bread pizzas were delicious as were the Baja shrimp salad, the chopped salad and the chicken soup. At this time of year there is a limited amount of warm sunshine hours, so lunch on the patio in full sun was a treat. There are, of course, umbrellas for anyone wanting shade.
We played two nine-hole rounds of golf at the resort, but with myriad choices for golf in the desert I would recommend opting for other courses in the area.
We did encounter one problem with our room but it was resolved to our satisfaction. One morning we noticed tiny ants creeping all along the granite on the bathroom sink. Someone from housekeeping came to inspect and suggested we change rooms rather that stay in a room that had to be sprayed with chemicals. Not terribly convenient but we agreed it was the best course of action. The hotel took off a generous amount from our bill to compensate.
All in all we would stay at Rancho Las Palmas again if we return to the Rancho Mirage area. Its architecture is pleasing, the room sizes generous, and the food at lunch outstanding. It's also conveniently located for area restaurants and golf courses. A good find in the desert!

Room Tip: Choose a room in the 600s for convenience to the main building and tranquility pool.

Although the rooms are adequate and the property is well designed, maintenance and front office staff are seriously deficient. There were problems with 2 of the 3 rooms we rented. Getting things fixed became a major issue and a real time waster. The front office staff is incompetent to deal with problems and followup with other staff members and hotel guests is markedly deficient. Most of them are oung kids, some of whom are pleasant but otherwise poorly trained and unmotivated to solve relatively straight-forward problems.

The positives would be the golf and tennis facilities which are very well designed and run by competent and highly professional and friendly staff. This is clearly not so in the front office.
Room cleanliness is acceptable but maintenance is significantly substandard.

Room Tip: look at it first and verify that it has heat, air conditioning (if appropriate) hot and cold running water and an operative TV with functioning remote control. One should be able to assume those things but not so at this property.
