This is our 3rd time at this hotel and while I think our kids are starting to outgrow this stage this is a great place to bring the family if you want to spend the whole day at the pool and not get bored.

I'll start off by saying that this resort is way too overrated for what it was and it's your average hotel with WAY too many people.
1) RIP OFF:Since it's a large resort, and there's only one family pool, it's obvious that you might be located far from the pool. The concierge at the front desk made it seem like you had to walk a far distance to reach the pool and "upgraded'' our room to what was supposedly a closer location for $50 more per night. Later I found out that not only was it not that far to walk to, but you can also use a golf cart to get to the pool area. Not only this, but the majority of the entrance gates weren't accessible because they were locked, so we had to walk all the way around to get to the pool.
2) OVERCROWDED: Since I have a 10 year old, I assumed that the slide and lazy river would be great way to have fun while my older daughter and I "relax" by the pool. Well, let me tell you, there were so many people that the lazy river wasn't even moving the way it was supposed to. All you saw were heads. Later, I decided to find some chairs by the pool, which took me about a good 15 minutes until someone finally left. Not only is it horridly hot, but you have to find your way around the hundreds of people that were gathered around the pool area. Every time we wanted to go into the pool, we were either getting smacked alongside our heads with a beach ball or having to migrate to another area because people were constantly shoving. No courtesy, whatsoever.
3) LOUD & NOT RELAXING: I decided to relax a on the chairs by the pool but it seemed like no matter how hard I tried, with all the people and the children's screaming, there was no way to even try to enjoy my trip.
4) EXPENSIVE: For the amount of money you spend per night, you would assume AT LEAST their food would be somewhat worth it. Lunch for 3 people included 2 Caesar salads (which were whatever), 2 cokes(ice filled up to the rim with a few splashes of coke), a distasteful "pina colada" and a smoothie was $75. You tell me if that's worth it.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting it to be all that peaceful considering that it's a family resort, but it was one of the worst trips I've ever taken. If you're going to spend a large amount of money, I recommend staying at the JW Marriot which is about 2 miles away or any other hotel. I don't know if it was this crowded due to the fact that it's in the middle of summer, but if you're still planning on going, don't have too high expectations.

I have been to this resort many times. We actually make it an annual trip. This time was by far the worst experience. Naked babies with no swim wear, no accessible ice in the pool area unless you ask the pool attendant and that takes forever, not enough umbrellas, guest services menu did not work the majority of the stay, beds were not properly on the bed frame, mugs were dirty....list goes on and it seems like little by little it is getting worse.

Lazy river and water slides are reason to come here. Kids love both. Key is to get a room close to the pool area if you have children. The take out restaurant near the lobby is very good and convenient. The hotel is also located right across the street from the large mall in Palm Desert that has many eating choices. View of mountains from most rooms.

We go to this resort a few weekends during the summer, mostly for the water fun but after the last stay probably we will have to reconsider if we will come back or how often. We spent 4 days recently at the resort and we wanted to have a good time so despite a number of details and issues we run into, the stay was mostly fun but...we wish the level of service they advertise would reflect in reality.
1. Spashtopia is much too overcrowded during the weekends. I tried to understand if there was any capacity limit but did not see any indication. The number of people in the lazy river on a Saturday made the place impossible to enjoy. There must have been close to 500 people around at the lazy river and in the river was no room to drop a ball.
2. Service around the main pool and Spalshtopia was poor. I literally had to run after one of the waiters to place an order, nobody would ask if needed anything for hours. I ended up going to order at the bar since the assigned person never showed up around in the area we stayed.
3. Splashtopia poop "accidents" happened at least once every time we spent at least two days at the lazy river. I did not see anywhere any "rules" to follow for parents with young children. I gather everyone should be responsible enough to know when to take their children to the restroom or have appropriate diapers if kids were not potty trained. I am not sure if posted instructions would help in this regards, but given the incidence we witnessed such events, i think there is never too much instruction on this topic.
4. Room keys were a huge hassle. We had 3 keys of which at times none would work, we constantly had an issue with the keys and had to run back and forth to front desk in order to get keys fixed. Even when got a new set of 3 keys, only 2 out of 3 would work at the door.
5. Breakfast at BluEmber in a non weekend morning, took almost an hour (waffles, bagels, fruits, basic, non complicated orders).
6. Price for food and drinks at the pool cafe was way over what we expected (lunch for 2 adults and a child was over $70 (nachos, pizza, pannini, 1 fruit smoothie 1 sangria, 1 margarita )
7. Water in the lazy river looked clean and sparkling in the morning but past noon it became really cloudy and slime could be noticed everywhere. Lots of hair, ants, plastic cups, leaves, etc could be found around in the water.
8. Do not count on Starbucks coffee from Market Cafe on a Sunday or Saturday morning, the line was so long, the estimate wait time for coffee was between 45-60 minutes.

The regular rate advertised on the resort website, clearly would not worth the money.

Our family travels roughly 3-5 times per year on vacation. Being from So Cal, we tend to stay in our backyard simply for the fact that we live in such a diverse region. This summer's vacation needed to fit a few crucial areas; plenty of pool fun, locality to good eating and comfortable amenities. Rancho Las Palmas exceeded on all fronts; the rooms were quite spacious and comfortable, the River shopping complex across the street hosts something like 10 restaurants of all price points and a phenomenal pool packed with water slides, a lazy river and a large pool.

From the moment we arrived, I knew we found something special; the front desk handled a LARGE line of incoming clients in what seemed to be minutes. Full disclosure, we were upgraded without asking...that is always a good sign! The front desk was more than willing to help accommodate a potential additional guest in our nephew-they gladly provided an additional wristband in case he showed up (very cool).

The service was genuine...friendly, but not overbearing...they truly seemed to care about my family's experience...and I find that refreshing in a world of scripted service and unmotivated customer relations people that I see so often.

In the end, I felt we received tremendous value for what we spent...beers, etc. are a bit pricey at the pool...but it's to be expected...this can easily be circumvented by hitting the local Vons or other grocery store on the way to the hotel.

Highly, highly recommend for a family...this will be an annual stop for us going forward.

Room Tip: Being in the buildings near the Splashtopia pool are a must if you're with young kids. It's...
