Good location, good food. The water park is not as great as the hotel describes it. The pool area although clean is too close to the buildings and gives it a feel of a cheap apartment building and does not feel like a resort at all. The prices are too high for a place that doesn't feel like a true resort. The Westin Mission Hills is a much better value and feels like a true resort and Renaissance Esmeralda is a much better resort.

The staff is horrible! The property is beautiful and when it was owned by Marriott, years ago, it was worth every penny. Not anymore. The pool is great for kids about 10 and under. It isn't very big at all and "crazy" is an understatement! Pools are expected to be crowded, but it just isn't big enough to accommodate the size of the hotel. The rooms have paper thin walls and with crying kids and yelling parents late into the night and early into the morning, the staff could care less when you request a different room. They told us "this is a family place and we can't promise you anything."

When checking in, the staff was less than friendly...almost robotic. Our room wasn't ready as promised and they act as they could care less. Definitely not worth the price you pay!!

So, be expected to pay Nordstrom prices and get Dollar Store service. I would not recommend this to my friends and my parents, who came here and raved about it when it was Marriott owned, won't be coming here again either.

Lots of money spent and very disappointed!!!!

My 14 year old son called from the hotel room to our cell phones on 2 occcasions. The total airtime was 6 minutes. The hotel charge for this was nearly $30!!!!! No where did it mention the costs of phone calls in any of the room's literature.I feel this is outrageous especially as they also charge a hefty resort fee and a variety of other extras that were not expected. Be prepared to spend a great deal more than you budget for with this hotel. Everything is extra!!! The breakfast buffet is way overpriced. The once great Sunday brunch is no more which is a great shame as it was the best in the desert. Overall I felt gouged for the duration of my stay. Will not be coming back and will advise others to beware of the hidden charges. Also, watch out for the overly officious and rather unpleasant guy in the 'Adults Pool'.

We stayed for 4 nights and five days and had a wonderful time. Splashtopia was a blast and my 6 and 12 yr. old daughters loved it. I found the pool area to be clean and the water was clean as well. The cool water felt very refreshing since the outside temps were up to 105 degrees. There were plenty of towels, water, and ice located around the pool areas. The pool attendants were very helpful and friendly, a couple of them knew me by name and would always say "Hello Mrs. Vellandi". We had the $50 breakfast deal each morning at the Blue Ember and it was fabulous. Kids loved the buffet. The eggs bennedict was delicious and so was the Scottish Lox with bagel and cream chesse. The fruit was also very fresh and had plenty of juicy pineapple and sweet strawberries. The rooms were nice but the carpet in ours was kinda dirty. The doors in the rooms had lots of little fingerprints all over them and could use a good wipedown. I would also recommend bringing your own pillow. Other than that it was nice and roomy. It was a very nice atmosphere and nice grounds, well kept.

We had a wonderful 3 days in the Rancho Las Palmas in Rancho Mirage. The rooms were big, with a nice view on the golf course and direct access to all facilities, specifically only few meters away from the entrance to Splashtopia, the fun center for children containing a lazy river, two water slides, various water cannons and much more.

Check-in was quick and easy and our luggage was brought via Golf Cart into our room. Internet up to 512k is included and for a 2MBit connection it's 19.95$/day.

Sleep quality is medium, as in the morning there are golf carts, cleaners, early users of the swimming pool, pumps of water fountains etc making noise. However this did not disturb us a great deal as our kids were up early as well.

We had a dinner in the bluEmber restaurant, which served good food (per adult one child eats free) but is rather pricey and at least for us did not provide a specific atmosphere as the restaurant was fairly empty (there is a rich variety of restaurants around Rancho Las Palmas as well, and cheaper).

Overall very good value for money for a family that wants to relax for a couple of days in an environment where children can be in the water and have fun all day.
