The museum staff was helpful in questions about the tour, recommended a great book on the petroglyphs which I read the night before the tour. Lots of beautiful jewelry and gifts in the museum.

My wife, children and grandchildren just returned for the museum sponsored petroglyph tour through Little Petroglyph Canyon located on the Naval base. It was the second trip for my wife and me but the first for the kids and the grandkids. We loved it! The kids loved it! The grandkids loved it!

The museum sponsors a limited number of small (around 20 people) tours in both the fall and spring of each year. The dates are posted on their website unusually beginning in march and August and sell out quickly. In all it is about a 10 hour trip which includes an orientation, base security check, trip to and from the canyon as well as the wonderful canyon experience itself.

The guides are very knowledgeable and super courteous and accommodating to the needs and desires of the group. The price is super cheap both for museum members and non-members. There are thousands of petrogyphs dated from as recent as a couple hundred years back to three thousand or so years.

The museum wonderful outdoor gardens, a natural history exhibit, rotating art exhibit and a wondful gift shop.

Check stout! you won’t be disappointed.

The Maturango Museum is a must for visitors to the northern Mojave Desert and folks heading for the eastern Sierras or Death Valley through the Ridgecrest area. The museum provides a great foundation for understanding the region, as well as displays of local art and great programs. It also boasts an incredible bookstore and hosts tours of Little Petroglyph Canyon. If you need visitor information, this is also a great stop.

I somehow expected a bigger museum but it was still interesting. Lots of animal, bird, butterfly exhibits so if you don't like stuffed animals, don't come here. Still, it gave a lot of information. The staff was extremely helpful. This is where you sign up for the petroglyph tours and get info.

Wonderful local natural history displays, photos, and taxidermy wildlife that you can see up close. Also an art gallery with rotating displays monthly. Best of all is the huge new gift shop with "something for everyone" and a lot of local artists work- hand made soaps, pottery, etc. fantastic Native American jewelry.
