“Superb service and excellent food”
Reviewed 4 March 2014

We stumbled upon Luna Rossa during our weekend stay in RPV because we were going to the movies and wanted to grab a bite before our movie. We happened to arrive along with the rest of the world and the restaurant found itself slammed with people in the span of about 30 seconds. We had to sit at a table at the bar, which was fine. What really impressed us about this place is that instead of feeling like the service level dropped due to the mad rush, it seemed to get better. We never waited an inordinate amount of time for food or service yet the waiter kept bringing us small bites from the ktichen as a way of apologizing for the wait. What wait? The food was delicious and our dinner ended with yet another apology from the waiter and some complimentary champagne and dessert. We would definitely come back to this place if we ever found ourselves in RPV again.

“A New Yorker's New Best Pick”
Reviewed 28 November 2013

New Yorkers know good pizza and I must say that it was the best I have had since arriving in California. Believe me when I tell you I have sought for good pizza and have found only one other that makes good pizza. Well, they are from Brooklyn and know how to do it. Luna Rossa's pizza had a beautiful thin crust and I can't wait to go back. Needless to say, I really enjoyed my dining experience and the service was personal and excellent.

“Still here!”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

This location is a tough one for some reason. In a lovely mall but this location has changed restaurants many times since the mall opened. Have eaten here quite a few times and the service has been good although recently much of the help left and so do not know how that has impacted them. A group of about 20 of us went some time ago and they treated us like royalty.

“RETURN VISIT - Even better than before”
Reviewed 21 July 2013

Really liked it and the entire dining experience previously, but it had been awhile, so we returned to check things out. To put it simply, this is just a GREAT place if you're anywhere in the neighborhood and hungry. This visit, we had the MOST charming and attentive server, Lauren (Laurel?) who was smart, checked in with us appropriately without hovering, and made sure that we were out in time to make our movie.
We all decided to share calamari and Caesar salads for starters. Very good. Salad well-prepared and dressing not overly saturated with anchovy paste, but still a genuine Caesar-tasting dressing. Calamari was not overly breaded, and was crisp and hot, not greasy.
We ordered excellent Luna Rossa thin crusted pizza with mushrooms, olives and vegetables, but not overly laden, baked just long enough to finish the crust perfectly. Risotto with mushrooms and garlic was creamy perfection. Penne with chicken and broccoli was outstanding.
NO ROOM for dessert after all of this, or even the offered complimentary after-dinner Moscato. Can't wait to go back, and we will make it a point to do so without delay.
GO TRY THIS RESTAURANT! Don't be intimidated by its location within the shopping mall. Go past Silver Spur from either Hawthorne Blvd or Crenshaw Blvd, and turn on Indian Peak Rd in order to enter the top level of the parking structure, toward the Regent movie theater. Then, just take the escalator one level down to the restaurant, only steps away.

A little loud but great food, good service and little extras. The eggplant parmigiana and bread are amazing!
