We like to celebrate our anniversary in or near Old Sacramento, and this year we chose Tower Bridge Bistro. It's just on the other side of the cobblestone streets and shops, attached to the Embassy Suites Hotel. If you are dining in the restaurant the valet parking is free. Outside seating is available with views of, what else, the bridge and river, but we opted for a booth inside the restaurant.

We went largely because we had read a Yelp review that said the chef would create custom-made vegan and vegetarian entrees. I made a note about wanting a vegetarian entree when we booked and from the moment we entered to when we left the service was spectacular, and the food was really tasty.

The staff were prepared for us and Josh, the evening's chef, came out to talk about his idea for the entree. Asian inspired, he avoided all the vegetables I don't care for, and created a lovely noodle feast with lots of fresh cilantro and green onions. The broth was tangy and flavorful and it was a nice sized portion. I probably should have asked for some tofu for a little protein content, but did not think of it.

My partner indulged in the skirt steak, with an unusual egg and vegetable side piled on top of the medallions and all was excellent.

There were about three by-the-glass wine selections, and the Coppola cab and Geyeser Peak sauvignon blanc were fine. Along with the tasty multi-grain break, we also shared the farmer's salad and brie with glazed strawberries for appetizers and devoured a supremely light and fruity lemon raspberry chiffon cake. A great meal.

Maria provided outstanding wait service, and even the busboy was very attentive, volunteering to get our parking ticket validated. It was a slow Wednesday in there, but still, we felt like celebrities and will definitely return.

Kudos to Tower Bistro for going out their way to may our dinner experience just perfect and to provide a level of service that is above so many others in the area.

Ok, it's true you can get pizza just about anywhere these days, but this place has a real flame style pizza oven and they actually use good tasting ingredients. The micro brews at the bar are also very good. We appreciated not having to leave the hotel for a good, inexpensive meal!

By the time we got to the hotel we were just beat & did not feel like going anywhere so when the reception ended we went up to the counter & ordered dinner. We had a wood fired pizza & a prime rib dip both were really good.

I love the fact that the Embassy Suites has this bistro - a great place for a light meal. I wish the service was better. Everything was off when we stayed. The woman taking our order was almost expressionless, took our order like an automaton, avoiding eye contact and making us feel like intruders. We ordered for a party of 5 all at once; however the minestrone soup came out immediately (mediocre) followed by the pizza (medicore) and finally french onion soup (served in an onion; very good). We didn't want to eat in shifts but had no choice. Our food was dropped on our table by a server who then hurried back to the kitchen. Now back to the pizza - they have a fiery pizza oven so you'd think you'd get a great crust, right? Wrong. Inexplicably soggy crust with under-cooked toppings (cheese barely melted, sauce lukewarm). Yuck. We had both a veggie and a pepperoni, both not very good, but we were hungry. Either the pizza oven is just for show or the kitchen doesn't know how to use it. With better service and more attention to detail in preparing the food this could be a real gem. Right now, it needs work.
