The walk around the capitol building is nice, but so are the exhibits inside. Architecture is nice as well

Our tour guide was a delightful geriatric man who wove a colorful narrative about the history of the Capitol; how it was constructed in stages over many years, and how budget cuts dictated areas that were left unfinished, or when less costly alternative materials were substituted when money ran out.
He also engaged the tourists by making us mock junior senators and taught us about interacting with lobbyists and other roles we might play as politicians. I particularly enjoyed seeing both the Senate and Assembly floors, and the history behind the color schemes and chosen paintings being related to English Parliament and the US government. The tour made me want to return to watch our politicians in action on the floor of the Senate or Assembly. I strongly recommend the tour for anyone who is civic-minded.

We got to see both houses in session on our tour and the tour guide was both funny and informative. It was worth the trip up the hill.

My mom and I enjoyed the tour of the capital building. The tour went through each the Senate and House floors. Very interesting history and architecture. We both enjoyed the landing with the last 6 governor's portraits. Spend the time before or after the tour to look in the rooms which have been set up as they would've been in the early history of the building. Check out the hallways with displays from each California county.
