I try to stop by Taco Del Mar whenever I visit this area of Sacramento on business (in the general vicinity of the Cal Expo grounds). This Baja-style quick service eatery is near the hotel I generally stay at and is especially convenient for a quick dinner – the area is primarily commercial/industrial, so the bulk of their business comes at lunch. Taco Del Mar means “taco of the sea” in Spanish, which for me is a hint to order the fish tacos (and they are quite good). In the evening you may have to wait a few minutes for your tacos, and that’s not necessarily bad because they prepare the fish to order.
And it’s not all about fish here; you can also choose shredded beef, ground beef, shredded pork, chicken and carne asada for your taco filling. They also have a good selection of burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas and salads. Be sure to check out the daily specials – I was last there on a Tuesday and got a two-taco combo (including rice and beans) for under $5.00.
Is this a five-star, life-changing, truly authentic south-of-the-border dining experience? No, but if you’re hungry and have a craving for Mexican food, this place is certainly worth checking out.
