Embassy Suites by Hilton Sacramento - Riverfront Promenade
Ranked #5 of 83 Hotels in Sacramento
Certificate of Excellence

My husband and I made Sacramento the first stop on a 6 state road trip, and a night at the Embassy Suites Riverfront Promenade was a great way to relax and recharge! The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet (we requested a river view, which faces away from the noisy I-5 freeway). Embassy Suites offers a wonderful complimentary happy hour and a delicious complimentary breakfast - great money savers when on vacation. And as always with Hilton properties, the bed was very comfortable!

As nice as the hotel and amenities were, the best feature is it's location. The capitol, old town, shopping and restaurants are all within minutes of walking. We valeted our car at the hotel and didn't need it again until we left the next day. And before hitting the road, we went for an energizing morning run along the riverfront bike path (also very conveniently located to the hotel).

Room Tip: One of the buildings 4 sides faces the noisy I-5 freeway. Request one of the other 3. A river view...

This is one of the nicer Embassy Suites overall. And if you are planning a visit to Sacramento it is a short walk to Old Town and the famous Tower Bridge. With two young kids this was a great choice when we didn't want to spend time drving around. We could walk to the train, for example.

As others have noted, the room we stayed in was in great shape. Compared to a couple other ES we have visited this is worth noting. The beds were comfortable and roomy. The only downside was we had an adjoining room (adjoined to someone we didn't know and there certainly was noise that could come through the door in the living room (a minor issue since that's where the kids slept). So I would request a non-adjoining room next time. Freeway noise was not an issue for us but for some I could see requesting a room not facing the freeway.

We were on the premium floor (4th). What that gets you is access to a vending machine with water and snacks. The problem is this is a family hotel on weekends and that poor machine was worked over and picked clean. So when it did work (which was not regularly) it was quickly stripped clean of everything. They also need to do a better job of telling people how to use the machine. It has a card slot but you don't need a card. You need to enter the code and then make a selection. Can't tell you how many people (including me) missed that part and were helped by other guests.

Like the ES near our home this hotel also does a booming weekend business in weddings and family events. So don't expect a quiet stay on weekends (can't speak to weekdays). This also means the pool is packed at prime kid-time and the free drinks in the evening is a mob scene which did not bring out the best in the staff (one bartender was playing the role of the Soup Nazi- "you don't know what drink you want? Next!"). Not acceptable. The drinks are free but we are paying to stay here. The evening food was what you would expect, perhaps adjusted a bit for the more family crowd- as was the adjustment to plastic cups over wine glasses (a minor issue but I really would prefer glass- the other ES hotels seem top pull it off).

Breakfast was what you would expect. It is certainly good enough with eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage and omlette station and the usual drinks. Apparently breakfast is worthy of glasses - a nice touch. Plus while they issue breakfast vouchers they do not really seem to care if you have one (just toss it in the box when you enter) so no hassles if you don't have yours handy.

Overall, the people there are good. Not the best service overall (it took 3 requests to get a crib) and it felt like they were overwhelmed by the parties going on there (even though the woman at check-in said it was like that every weekend). As noted earlier, there was a bit of that indifference I hate to see in people in the service industry. Things happened eventually but with too much prodding for a hotel at this price point. Again, I get you are giving us free drinks but hold the attitude, please. We have a right to pause to read the drink menu after waiting on line for a while (no, couldn't read it from line).

We would come back again but would love to see the service stepped up a bit.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms with adjoining doors. Try to avoid rooms that face the freeway- it is not a big deal bu...

Excellent place to stay. Very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Parking staff wonderful. Just the internet connect it not worth paying for. This is located in one of the best spots right next to old town Sacramento! Food is excellent.

This Embassy Suites is our favorite hotel when we go on vacation. The staff is helpful, the rooms are spotless and it's the quietest place we've ever stayed. Highly recommended. The breakfast is better than eating out.

Nice river front hotel. Embassy suites always does a good job with free breakfast and happy hours drinks. The omelet chefs in the morning were excellent. Is a great location to walk to old town Sacramento. You can take a train ride near by. The train museum is in walking distance.
There is a car museum nearby also. From our room we had a great view of the river and tower bridge. On Saturday night there were fireworks over the bridge that were beautiful.
We could see the capitol mall down the street from our hotel, so the Capitol is in walking distance also. There is a mall close by too. Great location.
They had live music outside of the bar on the weekend. If you are staying in Sacramento, this is the place to go.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the river.

Spent 5 nights here in July. Since I've been here before, I always try to get a room that does not face the freeway-the drone can be a distraction. The room itself was great. Bed was what I would expect from a Hilton property and the bathroom and living room were roomy and clean. On the down side, the wireless connection was horrible. I had to log in every 10 minutes IF I could get a connection-which did not happen two nights. The breakfast (always a big selling point with Embassy Suites) was just above the level of the La Quinta property I stayed at the previous month. My biggest beef (aside from the wi-fi) was with the evening reception. I've stayed at more than a handful of these properties and this one has one of the weakest selections of food and drink. The food consisted of veggies and dip plus chips/crackers each day. Why not pop a bit of variety for the multi-night guests? And perhaps a special drink for each night? It's worth a thought since breakfast and the reception are what really(?) set E.S. Apart from the competition.

Room Tip: Any room not facing the freeway.

While the hotel staff are exceptionally pleasant, I could not establish internet contact the first night when I got back late from my Convention. The lunch was costly but of terrible quality, the Shuttle always had an excuse for not taking us to the Convention site, the indoor pool water was exceptionally cold. When you pay so much for a room, you really don't expect these kinds of things.
