If you want to get lunch in Sacramento, go to La Bonne Soupe. The sandwiches are freshly prepared with fresh ingredients. They're a lot different from subway or similar chains. On a sunny day you can walk to the capitol park and enjoy the delicious sandwich there.

The small restaurant has a variety of sandwiches and soups. The food is good and tasty. The ingredients are natural and fresh. Although the sandwiches are small, it is a great choice for healthy eating.

Went to Le Bonne for lunch with friends, get there early if you’re planning on sitting down because there aren't many tables.
Had the French onion soup which was world class.
Then had a chicken sandwich that was prepared in front to me while I directed the chef to add aioli and oyster mushrooms, it was great too.
The bistro atmosphere is nice for lunch.
Would recommend it to anyone for a nice quick lunch in downtown Sacramento.

This bistro type eatery is small, don't blink or you'll miss it. But you'll also miss one of the best places for a quick and oh-so-flavorful lunch in Sacramento. In the heart of downtown, it's open weekdays from 11am to 3pm, and some Saturdays. There are usually four or five types of soup on the menu and always one veggie/vegan. And a list of sandwiches that will make you drool like the duck confit with caramelized onion, field greens and Laura Chenel goat cheese. Or smoked salmon, turkey, lamb, chicken and daily specials, each with their own list of provoking ingredients. You can also order half a sandwich, nice for a lighter lunch. There is seating for about eight inside and two tables outside, which usually fill up by noon.

I suppose if you arrive early enough to snag a table you could enjoy a leisurely lunch. But it's a great place for take out that satisfies a variety of palates. Yes on espresso and cappuccino, no on alcohol. They also offer a few desserts and cookies but haven't tried them so cannot comment.
