“A Good Staybridge”
Reviewed 16 October 2012

I stayed here with my sister and our 3 young kids in October. Super clean room, very nice and accommodating staff, and clean pool/spa. When we tried to check in early they promised and delivered the room within 1 hour. If you need to be near the Natomas area, this is a great location. Target, restaurants, shopping etc. all nearby. We've stayed at a few Staybridge and this is by far the best so far. The only downside (as is the case for all Staybridge Hotels we've experienced) is the poor insulation. Our floor was very quiet but the people directly above us were a little loud at 2am. Also the A/C is generally stronger in bedrooms than main living area, so we tend to get cold in the night while whomever is on the couch is roasting. All in all a good value though.

Great place to stay with children. We loved the room to spread out. Having a sitting area alongside of the rooms was great. Loved the breakfast , made a great start to the day. Staff were extremely helpful and attentive.

Stayed here in July for 2 nights with our 2 dogs. Friendly staff, clean rooms. The rooms have a separate kitchen and a separate bedroom with a small living room area that has a couch, chair and TV. Very quiet rooms and the kitchen is nicely appointed with dishes, towels, microwave, full size fridge, toaster and a Coffeemaker. Would stay here again.

We arrived super-late (1am) but was treated the same. Appreciate the spacious rooms plus the standard sofa bed. Kitchen suites included but we didn't use it at all due to time. The bathroom was pretty standard with the sink outside of the toilet & bath tub. Great for those that shower or use the bathroom too long.

The breakfast was ok. Could be better in quality and offering but it was a nice break from the usual continental breakfast. It was a quick easy check-out.

We are locals to Sacramento and needed a place to stay because a minor disaster at our house made it unlivable during repair work. After staying with relatives for two weeks, then a VRBO rental for two weeks, we landed at the Staybridge Suites. Our insurance company underestimated how long we'd need to be out of the house and so we didn't get into an apartment situation. This suite hotel was the best option we found. We have been there for 3 weeks and counting.

Pros:
*Fairly big suite -- two bedrooms with their own baths, kitchenette, and small living area worked well for our family. The living area was small but my toddler was perfectly happy to supplement the space with exploring the hotel's common areas.

*Breakfast daily -- a typical Holiday Inn selection of scrambled powdered eggs, sausage patties, potatoes, pastries, toast, waffles, cereal, juices, milk, and soda.

*Dinner three nights a week -- leans towards processed "American" foods (chili hotdogs, spagetti with meatballs, "nachos") and a salad bar. They also have beer, wine, and soda. You get a calendar at check-in of the weekly menu. It is very popular. As a "regular" it was nice to see the other long term residents at dinner.

*Pool, hottub, & workout room -- large workout room with towels, TV, stereo, scale, Nautilus-type machine, free weights, and typical climber/walker machines. Pool is just rectangular but they always have two large beach balls and several pool noodles for the kids which the kids seemed to love (too much maybe - there are many bite marks!). Towels are there too, but replenishing them is not frequent enough.

**Free laundry!! This was awesome. The best benefit for us by far. There are 4 or 5 machines and they are free to use. I've never seen this before and it was very helpful.

*Staff -- with one notable exception, the staff was always pleasant and helpful. Although training seems to be an issue needing improvement -- one night guy couldn't tell us whether calls to 1-800 numbers would be free or not, another told us there were no special bags for the kitchen trash but there are, housekeeping is inconsistent at best -- they do seem to generally want to help.

*Location -- Commute times on all the freeways in Sacramento are routinely horrible, but I could get from downtown to the hotel in under 30 minutes during peak commute most days (and there are alternate routes to discover). Also there is a Target, BJs, Panera, Barnes and Noble, Michaels, Home Depot, Ross, movie theatre and lots of other shopping very close by. A Raleys and a Save Mart are short drive away up/down Truxel. Natomas has a great park "Fort Natomas" that my toddler loved near the South Natomas library not too far down Truxel.

*Neary full size fridge -- adequate for holding our weekly food, full size freezer with an ice maker! Nice!

*Dishwasher -- it was very loud and one wheel was missing off bottom rack. But having it was awesome and made cooking in room much more realistic.

*Two gas BBQ grills -- we never used them. They get cleaned 1x per week. But I liked that the option was there. Many people seemed to enjoy using them.

Cons:
Inconsistent air-conditioning: Elevators and some hallway areas are hot and seem unconditioned. In our suite, one bedroom froze and in the other we were sweating -- until half-way in our stay we climbed on a chair and discovered that one vent had been closed nearly completely. Then the differential was much better.

No oven: for short-term stays the microwave and cooktop would be fine, but we would like to bake a pizza or make a quiche. The cooktop burner was also lop-sided and we never were able to fix it, so your food in the pan always slides to one side and needs more work to cook well. The trash bins were installed incorrectly to the cabinet door so the cabinet never closes completely. They are also really small and we had to take our trash down daily ourselves because of inconsistent housekeeping. There are only two chairs at the kitchen bar, so we bought our own folding chairs so we could eat together.

Cleanliness -- The hotel is newer, but our room already had a mildly shabby air -- call it "lived in" -- probably because they do take families and pets and long-term stays. The couch was nubby and filthy underneath - no one has vacuumed that in a very long time. The carpet a bit stained. The shower a bit stained. It looked like rooms had been constructed a bit from odd-lots from other jobs -- a marble threshold to bathroom but no other marble to be seen. Different colored hardware. There were food splatters in odd places around the suite -- the bedroom door, the door over the a/c unit. The a/c unit is in a locked bedroom closet with the return vent cut into the door -- the slats of the vent in the door were dust caked.

Unpredictable housekeeping schedule -- we could never figure out their schedule; seems to be determined daily. But this made it hard for us to have it happen because our toddler naps inconsistendly too. We tried informing the front desk when cleaning could occur each day, but it was almost never done. We'd come home with a cranky toddler desperate for a nap and the cleaning crew had just started or hadn't been there yet. We often had to get our own towels and trash bags from the front desk. We missed deep cleaning a few times and the toilet was looking disgusting by week two. It seemed like if you had the "we're sleeping" sign out in the morning, they never came back to check again. The staff was always nice, and seemed to want to accomodate us, but it just never quite came together. It was our biggest irritation with the hotel.

Pets -- this place takes pets. Normally we hate that because we question the cleanliness of a place and the potential for fleas, etc. However, we only heard a dog barking all evening from a room on one occaision and we haven't had any fleas yet. My toddler loved seeing dogs in the elevator or being walked outside by the owners. Owners putting dog [--] bags in the outside bins made us feel free to toss our bags of dirty diapers in the outside bins (see inconsistent cleaning above).

No shade: Why aren't there shade umbrellas on the patio or around the pool??? Sacramento is hot and the patio area faces into the afternoon and setting sun. You really need much more shade options than that poor little gazebo can provide. People seem to like to eat out there, but they look like they are baking!

In summation: All in all a very nice place to stay during a very stressful time in our lives. And long-term stays were pretty reasonably priced too. The free laundry, free breakfast, and free dinners also add a lot in value. Parking was never a problem either. Compared to the alternative suite hotels in the wider Sacramento area we checked out, this one ranks near the top and miles above the suite hotels near Cal Expo.

Clean, spacious rooms. We had a suite with two bedrooms and a small sitting area. Full kitchenette and two full baths. Good beds, with a variety of pillows. Lots of room for our party of 5 to spread out. We were never cramped.

Full breakfast every morning with lots of options. On weekdays (Tu-Th) they offer light evening meals (nachos, hot dogs) and beer/wine. Nice pool and hot tub. Pool is outdoor and got a little chilly in the evenings. It would be nice if it was heated.

Good, efficient service, but front desk was not all that attentive.

Short drive to Old Town Sacramento. Near shopping and restaurants.

My chihuahua had to have exploratory brain surgery so we needed a place to stay with her for one night prior to her being admitted to UC Davis the next morning. Knowing that I would need to feed her, I wanted a regular kitchen with a TILED floor and full kitchen sink and I was not finding any similar accommodation near the Davis campus.

Since I had just stayed at the Staybridge in Denver, I was familiar with their property so chose them again. Although a bit far from UC Davis, we never encountered any traffic and the drive was only 11 minutes to the Vet teaching hospital.

They gave us a 'pet friendly' room (of which I had my doubts) and to my surprise it was very clean except for one small spot by the curtain which I reported to the front desk and we had easy access via a side door to take her out for short walks.

The hotel itself is in a fabulous location surrounded by four huge shopping centers and several restaurants. I could not think of one big chain store that was not located near the property and there are also movie theatres! Look up the Sacramento Natomas Marketplace which is located across the street from this Staybridge. The property and area look brand new, yet was told it has been established for at least 10 years and the Vacaville Outlet Shopping center was not too far either.

Staff was friendly and very accommodating. The free breakfast is good sized with a choice of several items. There is also a laundry room and mini gym so you can exercise and watch TV while washing your clothes.

There was a calendar of events and several other amenities but unfortunately we did not have the time to participate. If you have to go to UC Davis for any reason, I would definitely stay here especially if for an extended stay.
