“Superb hotel, but ~”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2013 via mobile

We are happy that we stayed.in this first-class hotel. The staff was gracious and helpful, and our beautiful room was immaculate. The bed was wonderful. We ate lunch and breakfast buffet at the Vines (in this hotel), and food and service were first rate.

We were not surprised to pay a premium to spend a night in this hotel, but we were surprised at the cost of certain "miscellaneous" charges. The charge to use regular wifi was $10, and around $15 for faster wifi. Self parking was $17. On this vacation, every hotel.except this one allowed my husband to borrow a cart to take luggage to our room. This hotel had carts, but only for use by staff. OK, we're cheap, but those charges add up.

There are so many ways in which I really appreciate this Hyatt. Fantastic location for convention center and the growing restaurant and bar scene in downtown/midtown Sacramento. Nicely appointed rooms. Very helpful and friendly staff. Pretty good lobby bar, though I find the bar at the restaurant much friendlier. Pool area is nice, though it faces the busy street and is not a relaxing place to be.

The three stars are for what you DON'T get. Now, I know some of this is standard, but for example--you are paying $200plus a night for a room, and you have to plunk down $10 per day for wifi? There's free wifi at Motel 6, for goodness sake! And $25 a night for unsecured parking in the City lot attached to the hotel is outrageous. Limited TV...the only premium channel, if you can call it that, is HBO. And when I was there, several prime cable channels were out for the whole time, including the HBO! Room service charges out the door--a $27 bill became $41 with the gratuity and room charge.

So, as nice as the hotel is, from now on, I'm staying only a couple blocks away at other hotels that are as nicely appointed but don't fleece you on all the small stuff. Sorry, Hyat!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the capitol, though you'll pay extra for that.

Green Features: No recycling cans in the rooms and only one hook in the bathroom for hanging towels.

We do have a wonderful staff and our location is fantastic. I wanted to mention that we also offer complimentary wireless internet in our lobby and throughout our Amourath Lounge. While our Valet parking is $25 per night, we do offer a discounted $17 self-parking option for the structure connected to the hotel who normally charge $20 per night. Thank you for sharing your feedback!!

We stayed here for 1 night on our way from San Diego to Seattle. After driving 8 hours we were ready for a break!

The got us checked in quickly. The staff were friendly. The room was ok, but dated. The bathroom definitely needed a new tub/surround. The rest of the room was ok. I'd expect more from a Hyatt (stayed in one in San Diego for 2 nights before this stay and it was very nice!).

Have stayed twice at the HR Sacramento in past 4 months and have always found the rooms in tip-top shape. Housekeeping here is doing fabulous work. This last stay was in a suite facing Capitol Park and the rooms were meticulous. Often, in any hotel, there is just a minor thing here and there, like something was not vacuumed or overlooked, but here, the rooms were perfectly clean and welcoming. Bravo!

Location is great too. Right next to Capitol Park with its famous Rose Garden and various memorials. Its a nice stroll on a cool day. Also next to Convention Center, the Community Theater, the State Capitol Building and many fine local restaurants. There is a tavern, Gallagher's, a block away that does a nice happy hour from 4:30 to 7 pm, and Ella's across the street is one of Sacramento's finest restaurants. Self-parking is on-site and and a reasonable $17. (Have you parked in a SF hotel lately?)

Rooms facing the Capitol Park have a nice view, but if you are on a lower floor, they do pick up a fair share of street noise. So, try to get a higher floor. But the noise will fade after 10 pm or so.

There is a good sized pool onsite, but use of their fitness center requires a guest to leave the hotel to walk about 50 yards outside to the facility. The area is perfectly safe, but bad weather could make use of the facility more than inconvenient.

Breakfast as the Vines Restaurant was very good. We had the buffet breakfast ($20). The hostess and waitstaff were very friendly and efficient. Buffet food choices ($20) included smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, chicken sausage, pancakes, fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, a lot of choices, including an omelet. Only downside was the chef overcooked my omelet (again). It was overcooked the previous stay as well.

Why only 4 instead of 5 stars? It could have been 3 stars only since customer service at the front desk rated one star. The Hyatt reception area was recently renovated to make the area more open and welcoming, but they forgot to train their staff to be as welcoming. Customer service is a hallmark of the Hyatt chain, so it was really disappointing. That and another issue led me to speak to the hotel management about my concerns which were well received and promptly addressed -- in keeping with their high customer service standards.

So 4 stars for this stay only, but past stays have been five stars.

I Loved everything about this hotel. Staff was fantastic and it is what you would expect from a higher end establishment. Paid extra for parking, sodas cost almost $3.00 per 20oz bottle, and there was really no viable breakfast options in walking distance other than the hotel's cafe ($$$) The extra costs aside, the hotel was in a great location. I could look outside my window and see the State Capitol Building. In the morning, I was able to walk over to the capitol and checked out the Rose Garden. One of the coolest things about the hotel though was getting to meet some of the Los Angeles Clipper players as they were staying there before they played the Kings.

Another nice thing about the stay was finding an Irish Pub only about a two minute walk from the front door. The happy hour prices and service were fantastic. Better rices than the bar in the lobby. However, the bar in the lobby was also very comfortable and the staff there was very accommodating.

I was surprised to learn that this hotel is celebrating 25 years! Where you can feel that is the elevators - so outdated. The rest looks quite modern. I used my points, so it was a free room with Capitol view - very much recommended and would worth a few extra dollars for upgrade if it does not come for free. The check in was smooth although there was a line, but the staff was very attentive and offered people in line water and some snacks. It was a good and appreciated gesture!
The location is perfect for those who would like to stay in downtown, it has a corner Starbucks, a lovely Capitol garden n front of it and Temple coffee within a walking distance. The valet parking is 25 for a night and it is worth using it to avoid mess with finding the parking spot.
The only trouble thing was during my stay is really the water would leak from the shower all over the bathroom floor... so unpleasant.

Overall I would recommend staying in this hotel.

Room Tip: the higher the better

This hotel is easy to find and close to the 5 freeway. In a great location in the city. Upscale, contemporary decor. Bellmen, Reception and Room Service staff all very friendly. The room is nicely furnished with a nice lounge in addition to King bed. Room service was fast and food excellent. We enjoyed it so much we wished we had planned to stay longer than the one night for a graduation....would have liked to explore the city a bit more.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Capitol as there's a beautiful park in front that the Hyatt faces.
