This is our second time staying here, and it was just as good as the first. price is good and close to old sac, very clean, good breakfast and soooooooo quiet. Went to a concert "rehab" and needed somewhere close to downtown for after the show a $10 cab ride and thats a wrap. We will be back. or and staff rocks except the afternoon check in girlwas very rude.......

I have stayed at the Vagabond Inn a number of times over the past 30 years since it is conveniently located just 1 block from the train station and Old Sacramento. The hotel offers complimentary transfers to/from both the train station and Sacramento airport. Parking is free. The rooms have seen some updates (the room I had this time had what appeared to be new tile on the floor and around the shower in the bathroom), but are constrained by the design of the building. Rooms open to outside corridors and are a bit small (but adequate). An interesting feature is a window above the door where one might find a transom in earlier days. Since there is no covering for this window (you can't see in unless you are on a ladder), light from outside shines into the room at night. (hint: bring a roll of duct tape with you to tape a towel over the window if the light is an issue). The basin is in the room; toilet and tub/shower are in the bathroom. Room had sofa chair, desk, microwave, refrigerator, iron, and analog t.v. Decor was average for a mid-range hotel. Room condition was reasonably good, and was clean. (though a traveling companion in a nearby room complained of mold/mildew around the shower and a spider on the carpet). Breakfast, included with the room price, was typical fare with a selection of hot and cold items which were continually refreshed. Personal security might be a concern to some (especially single women) since the hotel has open corridors and is located downtown. I saw no sign of security cameras. Room doors can be secured to bar unwanted entry. I recommend avoiding rooms on the ground floor on the north side of the hotel since they are easily accessed from the street. Rooms on the second floor, or on the ground floor on the south (courtyard) side of the hotel may be more secure. South side (courtyard) rooms have less traffic noise since they face a Chinese clinic. Denny's restaurant is adjacent; The California State Railroad Museum and Old Town Sacramento, with many restaurants and attractions, is across the street to the west (walk through the parking structure). The Amtrak and light rail station is located across the street.

Room Tip: South side (courtyard) rooms are quieter.

I've traveled the west coast on business for 10 years and prefer to stay at the economy hotels, such as Motel 6, Days Inn, Econolodge, etc. I tried Vagabond for the first time. Everything worked, everything was clean. No complaints. The building's style was very 1960s, but I happen to love that era. A (very) minor quibble was the latenight tooting of the train horns at the train station across the street. I was scheduled to hop onto one of those trains early-early. No problem. The small exercise gym was a nice touch; I used it. When I think of 'Continental Breakfast', I think of coffee, donuts and bagels. They had 'REAL FOOD' here! LOL! Scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausages, waffles, etc! AWESOME! Don't ever change!

I was pleasantly surprised! After reading some of the other reviews, I was a little skeptical. But, I did find one dated the end of 2011, which gave a pretty good review. Upon arrival we found the lobby and staff to be pleasant. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We checked in early with no problems at all. The room isn't super spacious, but is comfortable for two (we had the king bed room). The bed had 6 pillows and a wonderful down comforter (the bed was super comfortable). The Wi-fi worked great, as well as the flat screen TV. We asked for extra towels, which were promptly brought to us. The toiletries provided in the room smell so good! I asked for extra, which they gave me. Also...wonderful was the breakfast, which is provided from 7am to 10am. This is so nice so you don't have to get up early to eat. The menu included: Eggs, potatoes, sausage, yogurt, fruit, misc pastries, fresh to make waffles, bagels, toast, and coffee. We enjoyed our stay so much, we decided to stay an extra day. I definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room with the down comforter, on the side away from the train station. Some...

We arrived by train midday and we were picked up by the shuttle. The station is across the street from the Inn but with luggage and traffic it was nice to have the ride. The inn is clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious with lots of variety. The Vagabond is only a block from Old Town and we walked there and felt very safe. There are plenty of restaurants there. There is Wifi in the room, the bed was comfortable. We had a little plumbing problem that was fixed immediately. We will definitely stay there again. Loved it!!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room. We had one in the back away from traffic. Very good night's sleep both n...

2/16_18/2012. Arrived after midnight by train. Station is across the street from the Vagabond Inn - very convenient. Hotel is clean and well maintained. Very reasonable when compared with other big name hotels in the vicinity. Free parking, which is rare in the area. Also free wireless wifi in room. Good free breakfast included. Not fancy, but a good bargain. Would stay again.

I stayed here in early February while attending a volleyball competition at the Sacramento Convention Center. It is a good location right off the freeway and only a short walking distance to Old Town Sacramento and the K street mall. While it is several blocks to the convention center, one could walk there as well if the weather is nice. I stayed in room 308 on the top floor overlooking the pool area, and everything was clean and functional. Noise was not an issue and I had a great night's sleep on a comfortable bed. There is a Denny's restaurant right next door to the hotel as well as a Starbucks close by. While I could have taken the elevator, it was more convenient for me to take the stairs down to the lobby for breakfast in the morning. Everyone that works here seemed to be friendly and efficient, and I never encountered any problems. I will definitely stay here again, and will recommend the Vagabond Executive to my friends!

Room Tip: Rooms on the side facing the pool and J street seem to be quieter than the other side of the hotel...
