We usually stay here at least 3 times a year, meeting up with friends and spending the night to catch up with each other. The lobby is very conducive to just sitting and chatting and we never are made to feel like we are in the way. The rooms are very nice and we even had a flat screen TV on our last visit, so they are keeping up with the times. The breakfast is perfect to get your day going. There is a nice sherry/port and cookie hour on weekday afternoons.

Someone mentioned the surrounding area....it has never bothered us since the hotel is right next to the freeway and we basically just get off and go to the hotel and then hop on the freeway to go to dinner. And there are PLENTY of places to eat within a 5 minute drive.

Dear Carol H,

We are so glad that you have made the Governors Inn Hotel your home away from home when visiting Sacramento. Thank you pointing out our new TVs. We have recently upgraded our televisions and have received plenty of positive feedback.

Our area is going through a great evolution with recent improvements to the roads, streetscape, building renovations and so much more. The I-5 underpass even has some great new LED blue lighting that gives off a great lighting glow at night. With the new Denny's across the street and the building of Township 9 along with the new light rail station, our area is becoming the talk of the town.

We look forward to seeing you again!

Booked this via hotwire. It was an okay stay.
It was clean, breakfast was basic. Staff was cordial.
However, location was not very nice, lets just say a tad on the ghetto side.
But overall, its not too bad.

Given the room rate, we were pleasantly surprised. This is a very beautiful hotel from the lobby to the rooms. The room and the bathroom were a nice size. We could walk around without stepping over each other. The bed and pillows were comfortable. They offer a pretty good breakfast. There's a small pool and jacuzzi. It's off the highway and a McDonald's is right next door but it's not noisy. The interactions with the staff were all great. The hotel is close to everything. Other reviews mentioned concern about the safety of the neighborhood but we did not see anything that raised alarm. There's a police station right next across the street. We were their 4 days and never saw any "homeless looking people". The only complaint we had was the shutters covering the windows do nothing to block out light. We put the bedspread over the windows to keep the sun out in the morning. Despite this, we would definitely recommend Governors Inn.

Dear barb1wired,

We are glad you stayed with us. We greatly appreciate the kind review and our glad you like the hotel, rooms and lobby. Our staff works hard to provide our guests with a wonderful experience. Sorry about the sunlight waking you up in the morning, we have not had a comment about the shutters before but will see if there is anything we can do in the future to block out the light.

Hope to see you back at the hotel!

Dear CaliforniaJwren,
Thank you for your kind and generous review of our hotel. We are excited about our renovations and have received high marks from our guests. Our continental breakfast is always evolving and I appreciate your comments. As you mentioned, the Denny’s recently opened and the entire area continues to go through an incredible transformation with new streetscape, easier access and new developments. Thank you for staying with us and we hope to see you again soon.

Having previously lived in Sacramento, I had my doubts about this hotel, but the one I wanted was full and the previous reviews here were ok so, I took a chance. I stayed 4 days. I was very impressed at the renovation the entire area has undergone. The hotel has also been beautifully renovated and was extremely clean as well. The continental breakfast left something to be desired with few protein sources. However, there is a new Denny's opening soon nearby, two nice lunch or dinner restaurants within walking distance and also a Mc Donalds's soon to be open next door. This location is wonderful for those who want to visit Discovery Park ( where the Sacramento and American Rivers converge), Old Sacramento, or the beautiful tree city of Sacramento, itself. All are within 5 minutes of the hotel. I managed to spend about 15% less than my 1st choice as well.

Room Tip: This is a non-smoking hotel, however, if people are outside the back doors smoking, it does drift in...

Dear CaliforniaJwren,

We are so glad you stayed with us and experienced our hotel. We are very glad you liked the renovations. And i appreciate you pointing out that we are nearby the American and Sacramento Rivers as well as old Sacramento. The new Denny's across the street is already a big hit. The new owners completely renovated the corner and did a very nice job with the interior.

As I mentioned previously on TripAdvisor, our entire neighborhood is receiving a facelift including improvements to the off-ramps and surrounding streets. Much of it is now completed.

We hope you stay with us again soon.

The hotel photos don't do the place justice. It is really very nice, with spacious rooms and an open and light-filled lobby which invites one to sit down with a cup of coffee. The staff was exceptionally pleasant. Breakfast was average and being gluten free, I didn't partake. At least the coffee was good and strong. I would stay here again.

I stayed only one night at the Governors Inn Hotel in Sacramento, CA. The hotel is located off the I-5 Freeway, however, is really not near downtown. A large railroad yard stands inbetween the hotel and downtown. I noticed that a Tram Station is being built as part of the link to the Airport. The hotel itself was VERY clean and VERY comfortable. I enjoyed the fact that they use sensor lighting and have natural products for the bathroom. The best touch was a laundry basket for the used towels. The hotel is located next to a MCD and across the street from a Dennys. Besides those two, I didn't notice any other place to eat. The only draw back is the location of the new Greyhound Station, just down the street.

Dear Bjaysfan21, Thank you for your review on TripAdvisor. We are glad you liked our efforts to make our hotel very energy efficient. Our staff works really hard to ensure our hotel is kept very clean and comfortable. The River District where are hotel is located is in a great location as the city and the businesses are investing heavily into the area. The Denny's you mentioned is brand new and just opened this week. The Sacramento Police Department's north division, CHP Headquarters and the California Lottery Offices are also located in the River District, along with a brand new light rail station. The city and state have recently completed a multi-million dollar street scape and freeway offramp/underpass improvement project. We could not be happier about all the exciting changes taking place. Thank you so much for staying with us!
