Jamie who owns and runs this place is crazy. I mean really, she hid from us the entire 4 days we were there in a spare bedroom, only to come wondering out at night, when she would bang around the house and make bizarre noises and once we heard her crying very loudly. The innkeepers who "hosted" us did not know the area and when we asked questions we were told they would have to "call" Jamie, even though she was just 10 feet away hiding in a room. At one point we actually feared she was going to wander out in the middle of the night and harm us, the experience was that weird. Then on the last day, we were overcharged for the room and told there was nothing the "innkeepers" could do because Jamie had the invoice with her on "vacation" (Again she was just in the spare room - we had seen her multiple times during our stay)- only after calling her daily for three weeks did I finally get in contact with her upon my return home, she still would not honor our agreed upon rate. She is truely ill and I hope she seeks the medical treatment she needs.

My husband and I decided to get away at the last minute to St Helena. Everything was booked! We ended up staying at the Bartels' Ranch even though the last review was horrible. Jamie was very helpful with dinner options and activities. She emailed us directions and gave us some side trip pointers along the way. We arrived in town Friday night and stopped at the Seqoiua Grove Winery on 29, wine was good, staff was pleasant but not talkative. Off to Peju. Here you have to wait to be put into a tasting group, which might take 15 minutes or longer. The group setting offers an intimate tasting where you can get to know your fellow tasters. Next to Merryvale. This is a large tasting room and the staff is not very helpful or talkative, this might also be because it was almost closing time. We went across the street to Pizzeria Travigne. This is a seat yourself restaurant and has a pool table and is kid friendly. The food was great and the service fast. We had the house salad, raviolis, garlic rolls, and lemon chicken piadine (this was fabulous!) It is inexpensive and an easy place to walk in to without a reservation. Off to the B&B. We were greeted by Jamie and Kayla (her dog) and shown to our room, it was a path around the outside of the house to the rear bedroom with a sliding glass door and jacuzzi. (Blue Vly Rm) The jacuzzi was hot and ready which was nice. Also having the separate entrance was nice. The jacuzzi overlooked the hills, trees, and wildlife. We did not see or hear another soul around the whole weekend. The bed was amazing and we slept so good! There is a pool table and living room. There is not a breakfast area. Breakfast is delivered to your room and set up at a table for you. The croissants and rolls are to die for!! Breakfast is served between 10-1 but my husband and I are early risers and were eager to start with our wine tasting! Jamie accomodated us and served us at 9:30. She also has popcorn in your room for late night snacking. The fridge was stocked with water, soda, and juice. The coffee pot was ready to go. And there was a micro. Sat morning we headed to Rombauer. Don't miss their Chardonnay! It sells out every year by March. Then to Venge; a private winery on the Silverado Trail, tasting by appt only. Rick was very knowledgeable, he answered all of our questions and took us for a tour in the caves. It was like having our own wine tasting class! Great wine! Off to Sterling and a tram ride. Beautiful view and good wine. It is a self guided tour and cost $20-there is a $5 coupon on the website. We had lunch at the CIA (culinary institute). Reservations are a must! The food was good but overpriced. The lunch menu seemed to be the same as the dinner menu. It was very heavy, ie...steak, halibut, scallops with gnocchi, tenderloin. They did not offer anything light such as chicken breast sandwich or chef salads. The waiter was nice but nothing special. Lunch was $80 with tip, no dessert, no appetizers, and 2 beers. We decided to take a side road off the 29 and ended up at Martucci Vineyard. What a great find!! Family owned winery, tastings done in a small house outside with a patio area and pool. Family was very friendly as were the visitors. It felt like being at a get together with friends. Kat was helpful with referrals to other wineries also, and she served us great bread with oil and balsamic dip and cheese. Wonderful family and great wines! Then to Diamond Oak Winery. Our pourer was less than talkative and offered only short answers to our questions. Nice hilltop setting. I think that was enough for one day so we stopped at V Sattui which is always great, picked up some food to micro in the room, and do one last tasting. Our pourer was awful, no personality, and irritated about working. Sunday morning woke up to another beautiful day and sat in the jacuzzi one last time. We stopped at Whitehall Winery, very friendly staff and great affordable wine. Opus one had great wine but rude staff. A tasting of one wine is $25 and we were the only ones in the room and had to ask for a tasting. We were not even acknowledged when we arrived to the tasting room. Plumpjack was also good and friendly. Cakebread was our last stop. Great informative tour and friendly staff and of course they always have great wine! We stopped in Yountville at Compadre's Mexican Restaurant for lunch. I would not recommend this place, it was not that good, Chevy's serves better mexican food! Can't wait to go back!!

Jami Bartels the owner/innkeeper misled us several times and was EXTREMELY disorganized. Made us reservations at several restaurants using our credit card number then proceeded to lose the itinerary. We got charged 100 dollars for missing a reservation we didn't even know we had. Also she charged us an extra 25 dollars/night over the quoted rate and refused to budge when I pointed this out.
