“Nice grounds with great proximity- good value for the area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2013

This little hotel has a nice setting and is reasonably priced for the area (although still at about $320 at night in July is a lot of $$) You could spend another $100+ at stay at another nearby hotel but not get really too much more. Most of the units face the vineyards to the north and have a small patio area but unfortunately you can see all of your neighbors in the adjoining units on their patios -- perhaps a little trailing vine on a partition could be installed to make it more private?? As long as you get a unit in the middle of the complex or more west of Highway 29 the noise should not be a problem-- I was more annoyed by the unit above us and constantly hearing the toilet or shower being used. There was a little fireplace in the unit but you must shut the doors or else the smoke will back flow into the room. They have a refrigerator to chill your wine. The place was built probably around 1960-- probably paid for some time ago -- it would be nice if they invested some of their profits to modernize the place some-- like solar on the chilly pool and even the gunite needs resurfacing- the spa is actually greenish tint from algae on the otherwise white gunite -- perhaps stained from years of misuse. Time for a little facelift on the pool area.
The breakfast is just OK - you have to ask for what you don't see-- like jelly for the bread -- they will set it out on a place for you-- no prepacked jelly containers. Overall a nice setting that doesn't totally break your wallet.

Room Tip: As long as you get a unit in the middle of the complex or more west of Highway 29 the noise should...

We have been to the Napa Valley many times but this is one of the best hotels we have found there for the price. We stayed in one of the two suites in the stand-alone building and it was very quiet although there was someone in the suite next door and others in the two-story building across the walkway. The suite with separate living room/dining area + fireplace is a great, cozy little space, but our favorite place was the secluded patio just off the bedroom - surrounded by shrubs, vines, and trees, perfect for meals of wine & food from Dean & Deluca or V. Sattui winery (both just down the road). Wonderful continental breakfast served in a beautiful dining area in the main building with view of the surrounding vineyard. The surrounding area is great for evening walks after dinner; dozens of vineyards and restaurants of any kind are within a few miles. The Inn is far enough away from downtown St. Helena to be away from the noise, but close enough to walk into town if you want to. We will stay here again.

A gracious setting even though it fronts the main road through Napa Valley. The 2 medium sized rooms felt spacious enough and there's no way to top the working fireplace! It was unusually rainy an cool for our first two nights so a fire (with a dura log) was greatly appreciated! Very nicely cared for place, small pool and jacuzzi, continental breakfast included, loved it all.

Room Tip: maybe choose an upstairs room (two story building) so you don't hear footsteps...

This is my second visit to the Inn, and I'm continuously impressed! Beautiful grounds and landscaping, gorgeous atmosphere and architecture, rooms with fireplaces and balconies overlooking a vineyard. Owner Ortwin Krueger makes you feel welcome like family in impeccably maintained rooms. Delicious fireside breakfasts make you feel as if you are in the French countryside, in the heart of Napa! Downtown Main Street in St. Helena is just a short walk away. It's rare for me to give perfect scores out, but the Vineyard Country Inn deserves it!!

I just got back from staying at the Vineyard Country Inn. The staff is all very charming and nice. The room was a nice size with a separate living area. They give you free bottle water each day along with a nice continental style breakfast. My room was closest to the road and I had no trouble with noise like others who wrote reviews here. The location is very close and within walking distance to some great restaurants and lovely vineyards. In fact, my room was just steps from grapevines. Loved it and will definitely stay there again!

We (3 of us) stayed 2 nights here this past weekend celebrating my mother's 75th birthday. We had plenty of room. No problem with noise. It was coveniently located and perfectly clean. The breakfast was delicious and a great experience....

Four couples stayed at Vineyard Country Inn for a weekend trip from San Diego, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Although a bit dated, the rooms were clean, comfortable and well maintained. The ony negative was the fact that the jacuzzi was out of order the weekend we statyed there, but that's a fairly minor detail. The Inn is exclusivlely suites (21 in all), and each has a small sitting room with a (real) fireplace, couch, small table and chairs. The beds are comfortable, although the pillows were a bit thin. The only other negative comment we had was that the air conditioner needed to work very hard to keep our second floor room cool, but in the evenings we just opened the bedroom balcony doors and the front door to the suite and a nice breeze quickly cooled things down. St. Helena is about a half-mile up the road, and several wineries are within walking distance.

Room Tip: Road noise (CA 29 fronts the property) can be intrusive, so ask for a unit towards the rear of the p...
