We had only a limited amount of time to visit Napa prior to a business trip to San Jose, and were lucky enough to find Black Rock Inn on the internet before we arrived. Jeff was very accommodating and helpful, and made tasting appointments for us, enabling us to make the most of our limited time there. Our knowledge of Napa wines was very limited and, as a wine collector himself, he was able to help us select wines to suit our taste. His were excellent recommendations, and we bought as many bottles as we could manage.

BRI is a great little B&B very close to some of the most interesting wineries, and is in the most scenic part of the valley. Our room was spacious, comfortable and private with its own balcony, and there was plenty of room in our bathroom. Breakfast was fresh and delicious.

We wouldn't look further than BRI for our next (hopefully soon) visit to the Napa Valley - highly recommended.

We were heading to Napa for a last minute getaway and we simply stumbled across The Black Rock Inn. What a great find. While the property is fantastic and the locale is great Jeff makes the place a destination all its own. The room was very spacious and welcoming, the bed was comfortable and the shower was luxurious. What about this Jeff guy? Jeff is more than just the property owner and inn keeper. He is a wonderful chef, eager concierge, and wine aficionado. Jeff has the valley completely wired. Restaurants recommendations and tough to get reservations, no problem. Boutique wineries that are hidden gems, consider it done. Simply put, he is the host with the most. It is very clear that he loves what he does and after a weekend with Jeff we love what he does too.

Ah, I can't end this praise worthy rant without making mention of his extensive cellar. He is a true Oenophile (wine lover). He loves to talk wine almost as much as he loves to share his wine. He opened fantastic wines, like more than I would care to admit in this post. Go and check him out, you'll see. We will be back for sure.

Is it a great property? Yes. Is it well-positioned to visit the best of Napa's wineries? Yes. Is it good enough for a special occasion? Yes.

But is much more because of the owner/innkeeper. Jeff. Jeff isn't just renting you a room. He is taking responsibility for your having a fantastic trip. If you have your itinerary all planned out, great. If you don't have it planned and need knowledgeable recommendations on dinner, no worries. Jeff knows all the good spots and has worked on creating relationships to get you into those places, even at the last minute. Need to know some cool, small production wineries? Jeff knows them and will work to get you in to taste. Not open to the public. No problem. Jeff can make it happen.

Don't miss the daily happy hour ( or should I say "happy hours"). Jeff has an impressive cellar in his own right and isn't afraid to share some extremely tasty, finely aged wines with his guests. Happy hour isn't about pouring the V Sattui for the unwashed. He goes for the gusto.

Breakfast is delicious as well. Jeff wants to make sure everyone has a good base before they hit the road tasting and his breakfast does not disappoint.

I recommend without reservation.

My husband and I recently spent 2 weeks travelling through California on our vacation from Australia. Our last stop was Napa and friends suggested staying in St Helena (which is beautiful). I searched the internet for luxury accommodation in the area and luckily came across Black Rock Inn, located 5 mins from St Helena. It's always with mild trepidation that you arrive at your destination and hope that the online pictures haven't over-promised. Black Rock Inn, does quite the contrary. The property is beautiful. We stayed in suite 1, on the ground floor. The suite was very well appointed. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the sheets soft, the towels fluffy - bliss.. However, what made Black Rock Inn so special was Jeff, the owner and our host for the weekend. From the moment we stepped out of the car, Jeff was there to cater for our every need. His dining and wine tasting recommendations were perfect. This is a man who is passionate about food and wine and wants others to savour in the delights of the Napa region. He organised wine tastings, booked restaurants, shared some of his fabulous wine collection and made us 2 delicious breakfasts. If only Black Rock Inn were closer, it'd be on our weekend getaway list.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor are quieter.

We just celebrated a birthday in wine country and had the pleasure of staying at the Black Rock Inn! Everything was just perfect... from the moment we were greeted in the parking area by the owner Jeff, to the bag of scones he provided us for our early morning flight on the day of our departure! Great location for wine tastings and dinners! Beautifully appointed rooms! Soft fluffy towels! Delicious breakfasts prepared by the owner! Relaxing on the gazebo, catching up with family and drinking wine...priceless!

Jeff is a gracious and accommodating host who effortlessly catered to all our needs! He helped with setting up last minute tastings and offered recommendations for dinners. He was very
generous with sharing his excellent wines for late afternoon tastings! He is very knowledgeable and we enjoyed the time he spent with us discussing his wine.

We stayed in suite 3 and 4. Back of the house ...very quiet! Each suite has a private outdoor sitting area. For a larger grog traveling together the guest house is gorgeous! Comes complete with outdoor fireplace and heat lamps!

Looking forward to our next trip to wine country and the Black Rock Inn!

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Black Rock Inn, in St. Helena. We usually stay in Yountville, but decided to try out a new place that was slightly more affordable. The Black Rock Inn is wonderful! Jeff took care of us like family, but was very in-tune and sensitive to our wishes for privacy as well. I booked the Inn with Jeff over the phone and he was extremely accommodating and flexible. Purely based on the pictures of the rooms online, I couldn't decide if I wanted to stay in Room 2 or 4, and since we were only a couple of days out, and neither room had been rented for that Sat. night, Jeff said that if it was still vacant, we could check them out upon arrival and pick which one we wanted to stay in.

The property is beautiful. It reminded me of home with gorgeous and updated amenities and furnishings (think West Elm, Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn). We decided on Room 4 because of the balcony which is perfect for enjoying a glass of summer wine after a long day of wine tasting.

For dinner, Jeff also recommended we head into town (St. Helena), which was about a 5 minute drive, and eat at Goose & Gander. Delicious!

We headed back to the Inn after dinner, opened up the screen doors and windows and fell asleep to a warm summer breeze. After waking from restful sleep to the sounds of chirping birds, Jeff cooked us breakfast in the huge kitchen downstairs where we enjoyed berry scones, fresh fruit and yogurt, scrambled eggs, his special spicy potatoes (so incredibly delicious), and freshly brewed coffee.

We can't say enough about Jeff and this lovely property in St. Helena. It's quiet, comfortable, inviting and beautiful. We'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: Room 2 is very sunny and gets the afternoon sun. Room 4 is cooler and has a balcony. All of the room...

We have been staying at this property since 2002. Had chosen other B&B's in the area the last couple of years as it had been sold and closed. The new owner has done a wonderful job of upgrading the rooms and bathrooms. The location is absolutely perfect for those trying to maximize their tasting experiences as you don't spend all day driving the valley. The breakfast was top notch. Jeff was also very knowledgeable about the local wineries and winemakers with many excellent contacts.
