“BIG fun!”
Reviewed 7 March 2008

If your idea of a good time is to sit on the porch and watch elephants hang out, this place is for you! After reading good reviews in the San Francisco Chronicle, I booked a night as a suprise for my sweetheart. It was a stormy weekend, and the view of the Salinas River valley gave us lots of rainbows in between storm clouds. We were thrilled to hear lions roar throughout the night and morn. Our tent offered a great view of the elephants getting baths as they left their barns in the AM. The facility tour is not to be missed. I liked the staff- it's clear they care deeply for the animals. The highlight of our stay was feeding Butch the elephant when he visited our tent to bring us continental breakfast. Watching a barn owl hunt the fields in the night was a bonus. Bring your binoculars and pack your camera! We had a great time, and plan to go back.

  • Liked — the animals you get to watch from room
  • Disliked — gift shop was geared to children- probably field trips from schools

I was planning a last-minute short weekend away and found this place on a lark -- I'm so glad I did! The B&B is on the grounds of what's basically a wild animal "zoo" (the owners might flinch at this word, but that's really what it felt like). The animals there are actors in Hollywood for commercials and movies, so they live here during their "off-time" -- away from the rigours of Hollywood! Take the tour of the ranch which is included in the price of your stay and you'll get to see lions and tigers and bears -- no lie!

The four "cabins" at the B&B overlook the elephants' area. They are actually large, well insulated tents, with proper furniture, wood floors and bathrooms with small refrigerators. All was comfy and warm with the provided heater and electric blanket. If you're worried about being in a glorified tent in the middle of a rainstorm -- don't be; the weather was rainy and windy all night when we were there but it was totally dry and cozy inside.

Breakfast will be the biggest treat of your stay (and maybe your month!). The fresh muffins, croissants, fruit and yogurt will be brought to your cabin by . . . wait for it . . . an African elephant! Seriously. It's really wild. They are kind enough to take pictures with your camera if you'd like so you can prove to your friends that Dumbo brought you your danish!

Overall, a really cool place that has comfy accommodations, but with a unique twist. Highly, highly recommended.
