My trip was to just relax and read some books I brought along. I received a history lesson and a tour of some of the other rooms. Each on was different - very interesting. I plan to visit the Wigwam Motel again. The next time I plan to eat at some of the local historic/family owned restaurants and tour some of the local sites.

This place won't be for everyone but for me it was perfect.

This is exactly what it's called, a Wigwam motel. Built in the late 1940's there are a handful of wigwam shaped rooms surrounding exemplarly kept grounds (soft bouncy grass) and a spotlessley clean swimming pool.

The rooms are spacious, very comfy beds, good tv selection (it was our last night and we were glad of the sofa and movie channel for us to chill out while we repacked our cases ready for departure).

The owner was incredible, a real character, warm and friendly and great with suggestions of places to eat as well as helping us with driving directions.

This motel is a real slice of kitsch Americana, a historic site along the side of the legendary route 66. We met some wonderful guests the morning we departed who had been driving the 'mother road' from Chicago (two ageing gents from Iowa in particular who were great company). That's the type of people you hope to find in a place like this and it didn't dissapoint.

I should also recommend a site nearby, a couple blocks away is the site of the original Mc Donalds restaurant, another worthy stop for those interested in US history. The site is no longer a Mc Donlads but there is a good museum there which is worth calling into.

Looking forward to staying at the Wigwam again when I get to tackle the mother road myself.

The only suggestion is that the lighting could be better in the wigwams (florescent lights are kind of ugly, but I also understand that they are economical.

We needed an inexpensive place to spend the night. Wigwam fit the bill. All other places in the area started around $80 before taxes. It's inexpensive, clean, quiet, and nostalgic too boot!. We will be Back!!

Sadly this motel seems to have a very bad reputation on the Route however we had the most exceptional service here out of all the places we stayed on a 5 week trip.

If you want to be petty you could complain about it being on a main road (we weren't bothered by any noise though), that there is no breakfast (options in the area however) and the lack of a hairdryer (trust me you can survive) but these aren't really serious gripes.

Go, enjoy a classic stop, experience amazing service and admire the fantastically high beds!

PS. We haven't even mentioned the fabled architecture and a nice bunch of classic cars.

Although we only stayed for one night at the Wigwam Motel we enjoyed ourselves immensely. The Wigwams are an amusing and different way of spending a night on the road. The kids were absolutely beside themselves with excitement about staying the night. The rooms were clean and well presented. The service we received from the moment we arrived to the time we left was second to none. The staff at the Wigwam were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We would highly recommend the Wigwam Motel to all travellers.
