“A great place to stay”
Reviewed 18 October 2009

The hotel was modern, clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and polite. Vinny, the General Manager who is also from the UK, provided alot of useful information on places to see and things to do.

The location is perfect, with a 15-20 minute drive downtown. If you get a chance, go checkout the Muir Woods just north of San Francisco.

The building is new, in a nice neighborhood, the rooms are comfortable and well maintained, the breakfast buffet is decent (with Kellogg's cereals, good coffee, hard boiled eggs and bakery items). Free garage parking. Within 5 minutes of SFO airport. Rooms are quiet. Satelite TV channel choices are abundant.

We had a very early morning flight from san francisco airport and it was a good choice to stay there. It's cheap, the rooms were nice and clean. The staff were helpful.

1. JNJ Transportation operates the shuttle from SFO Airport. Frequency is about twice an hour, beginning at 4AM.
2. Addess is 190 El Camino Real, a long, long, long street in the southern suburbs of SF. Lots of Asian restaurants in the area and quaint little shops in the downtown San Bruno area.
3. SamTrans bus 390 runs past the hotel to Daly City and Palo Alto in the opposite direction. To get to downtown SF, take bus 391 which takes a little over an hour. If you need faster service, try CalTrain or BART, but at a much greater cost. Note, 391 service to DT SF is workdays only. If you need to get to downtown on Saturday or Sunday, take the hotel shuttle back to the airport and use SamTrans bus 292. There are no transfers on SamTrans, you pay for each leg of the trip you use. Don't confuse SamTrans with The Muni, the SF public transportation system. They are not interchangeable.
4. Breakfast begins at 6AM with the regular fare. The only protein is hard boiled eggs and cream cheese. Otherwise, its all sugary carbos. But its a step up from a continental breakfast.
5. Bathroom was all ceramic tile with great plumbing that didn't leak, belch or hiss.
6. Bedding, curtains, etc were clean and fresh.
7. Ice machine on the second floor is missing. Must use the one on the first floor.
8. Room contained a coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator, but the nearest Safeway is a long way away.
9. It was a pleasant 4-day stay in cool San Francisco.
10. Definately will return.

I must admit I didnt know what to expect before taking my family on a 6 day coast trip with the first stop in San Francisco. Knowing how crazy san fran can be and prices high, I wanted to stay outside of San francisco without being too far. The HOJO was between two bart stations which gave us access to San Fran without the high prices. The hotel is on a busy street nestled in a residential area but not to far from food, banks and mall shopping. The staff were great with directions and suggestions. The HOJO suceeded my family needs and the price was nice on the budget considering we had two more hotel stays down the coast

Title sums it all. Its a brand new hotel, everything smells and feels new. Should have been worth a lot more. We stayed for 3 nights. The service was great. Continental breakfast never ran out, unlike some hotels who dont bring refils. Management made sure that service was polite. e.g., I used their Laser printer (10cents per page) but they didnt charge. Sufficient parking available. Neat and clean environment. Neighborhood has several franchise restaurants. I would strongly recommend to stay here. On weekends, the drive to SF downtown or Fisherman's Wharf is hardly 20-25 minutes.

Well, as a traveling musician, I can say that affordable places to stay with easy access to public transportation and key city spots is invaluable...and this Howard Johnson was just that.

I was treated very well by the staff and my accommodations were just what I needed.

The hotel was within easy walking distance to BART (San Francisco's main subway and public transportation system), and it was a very quick ride into the heart of San Francisco.

My room was clean and well stocked with goodies like coffee and tea, as well as cable and wireless internet.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I couldn't recommend it more...especially to those looking for good value.
