This is a small hotel (23 rooms or so) located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area that is run by very friendly people. In addition to being centrally located (close to the San Francisco Airport), each room has a Color TV (with HBO), an air conditioned/heating unit, fridge and bathroom, nice beds, and accompanying furniture.

The staff and owner are both friendly and helpful.

Whenever I need a place to stay in the area, The Ritz is my destination.

If you need a place to stay near the airport, because of an early flight or getting in late, the wife and I would definitely recommend The Ritz (not that it's ritzy). As most reviewers have noted, it is clean, the price is a fraction of nearby equivalent places, our bed was comfortable, it was quiet, freshly painted, the bathroom was functional and there was hot water in the shower with good pressure (I see none of this satisfied our reviewer from New York. Feh...). We even walked to the very good barbecue place late at night, a couple blocks up, stopped for beers, and brought it all back for a dandy in-room feast. No problems, no one bothered us. If you have $150 or more to spend for a night, I pat you on the back and suggest you look elsewhere. The rest of you 99 percenters, enjoy the Ritz.

Our flight got in very late, and the manager kept our room for us, though he appreciated being informed (they were full that night and could have given the room to someone else).

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor room.

The rooms are anywhere from 2 star to 5. Depends on the mood of the front desk when you check in. The maids are efficient and thorough, but dont talk to them, they will ask almost demand a TIP. The area is okay. The parking is very limited. Dont bring your Brand new vehicle here, it might get scratched. The local area has some undesirables nearby.

Room Tip: How you dress when you arrive, will determine what room you get

Stayed here as part of a roadtrip, and was very happy with our room.
It is very clean, spacious, Peter and his wife at the reception were very kind and helpful with whatever we asked.
The bed was VERY comfortable, and there is a fridge and a micro in the room.
It is close enough to the Bart (the local train) and you can go to San Franciso with that.
There are restaurants and other services nearby.
Also it's not too far from the SFO airport, so you don't have to travel hours after the flight.
I would recommend this place over the nearby overpriced accomodations, and definitely will stay in the future.

Room Tip: Clean, safe, budget, basic

Overall, we were happy with our accomodations. Rooms were certainly not luxurious, but we didn't expect that with the price we paid. The rooms were clean and we had a bed & shower, so we were good. The hotel manager even helped us with finding a taxi when we weren't expecting to need one - and had them hurry in order to get us to a tour site as quick as possible.

Room Tip: No elevators, so if you get a 2nd floor, you have to carry everything up steps!!

Thanks to TripAdvisor reviews, we found this great little place to an overnight to catch an early flight out of SFO. Arrived early afternoon, left by 6 a.m. Clean, attractive, hospitable. Towels were a little threadbare, but fresh & absorbent and the bedsheets were smooth & pleasant - something I was worried about as many budget hotels seem to skimp on linens. Not here! Also, although the room had a small fridge & microwave, no coffee maker. We were wanting hot water for tea and the owner offered to lend us coffee cups so we could heat water in the microwave! I call that excellent customer service. As it turned out, we stopped at a nearby CVS & bought an electric kettle ... Since we were in San Bruno early, we took the opportunity to hike at the nearby Golden Gate National Recreational Area (http://www.bahiker.com/southbayhikes/sweeney.html) and had dinner at the Molly Stone's deli.
