Nick's is a legendary restaurant in San Clemente and their take on south of the border food is not not be missed. We can never get by the Guacamole and on to the other appetizers. Food is excellent and inventive and their drinks are innovative and not duplicated anywhere else. Always worth a stop, try to get them in the off hours. Main times are crowded as they should be for a place of this quality.

Forget any other contemporary Mexican cuisine restaurant you've ever been to - there's nothing else like South of Nick's in San Clemente!!
Very few times I've been to a restaurant that appeals to all ages and all styles the way SoN does!!
Vibrant atmosphere, lively bar, cozy seating, attentive staff, and great sense of ownership by the owners in making the experience unforgettable for the customer!!
The staff is constantly on their toes to make you feel welcome.
They constantly bring hot yummy chips and cold salsa to the table. You have to try the sea specialties on the menu (the sea bass is out of this world!!), but everything is very good. The margaritas are very good, and their wine and beer selection is right on!
You won't be disappointed!

The food is very good! The portions are not like a typical Mexican place -- this is high end. I had the spicy tacos and they were very good. Drinks are good too! Can be very crowded so it is best to make reservations!

We celebrated my dad's 90th birthday here. There were 7 family members at the table, all fans of Mexican inspired cuisine, including a three year old and a vegetarian. Everyone easily found a dish they thought they would like. Our server was very helpful and attentive. The food was well prepared and attractively served. Everyone, including the notoriously hard to please birthday boy,was happy with their food. We will go back for sure.

From Atlanta we don't fine a lot of real Mexican restaurants so while visiting San Diego we had dinner with some friends from San Clemente and they chose South of Nick's. A great choice. Our table was ready when we arrived. Our server greeted us promptly and took drink and starter orders.
It was a given that we had to have the fresh make Guacamole which was the best I've had that was not mine :-) The salsa is homemade and not very spicy so every one at the table could enjoy. For Dinner I chose the Dos Combo of citrus chicken taco and a pork tamale and the meal comes with beans and rice. I had a friend in LA about 25 years ago who's mom would make tamales for us that were out of this world. South of Nick's tamale's are just the way my friends mom use to make them. My wife had the lobster enchiladas with rice and beans. Our friend does not like spicy foods so the waiter had the cook prepare a dish for her that had very little spices and she love it.
Being from Atlanta, I can't say we'll be back to South of Nick's, but if we are ever in the San Clemente area, Nick's is on the hit list for sure.
