MCP is open an a wonderful place to visit. The sun is out today, but it is cool and crisp outside. This is the type of weather when I like to put on a heavy jacket and go walking. Be sure to stop at the Visitor center to get a overview of the history of the park and the fame that lived here. If you have been here before there are new items from the Japanese families that lived and worked her before they were sent to internment camps in WWII. There is also a mechanical cow that children can milk. There have been some bald eagles in the trees. Learn about what this valley was like before there were freeways, shopping centers, and housing tracts.

We went to Martial Cottle Park, which is a new park in San Jose. There is a day use fee (currently $6 per car). One can pay this at the machine if the entrance station office is closed. There looked to be a fair amount of street parking currently that is free.

The Cottle Family owned the farm. Edwin Cottle started the farm in 1864. It stayed in the family and continued to be farmed through 2014 when the last heir Walter Cottle Lester passed away. At that time it became a farm.

There will still be farming here. Jacobs Farm is now here.

Its a very nice place for taking a walk. There are individual as well as group picnic grounds. There are informational signs about the farm and the Cottle Family.

There is also Discovery Farm - which is fun to go to - especially for children. The animals there are not real, but "built". Its a cute place and also has a tractor play area.
There is also a visitor center.

Overall, we thought that this is a nice new park. It is also a large park at 287 acres.

Thank mini

Martial Cottle Park is the new kid on the block, but is different than all the others. It is designed to educate, display, and demonstrate the agricultural nature of our valley in the early years. Rangers and volunteer docents will will take you on tours and explain artifacts in the Visitor Center to explain why the family owners wanted to preserve their ranch as a working farm park. There are no ball fields or traditional playground equipment. But there is lots of outdoor space to run and play, things to see and do. Get a sense of what our valley was like 100-150 years ago.

This Santa Clara County park has a perimeter 3.9 mile walking/bicycle path. Visit the Discovery Farm for your children to us some unique playground equipment. Make sure you go into the Visitors Center to see 19th/20th century relics and read the multilevel "Timeline" outside of this building. There are 5 areas that can be rented that accommodate 50, 100, 300 people. Master Gardeners and 4H are also on site. Lastly, visit the organic farm stand that is run by the insight farmer, Jacobs Farm.
