Owner description: Visitors can tour the house and gardens once owned by wealthy widow Sarah Winchester, who kept construction going on the 160-room Victorian mansion for 38 years.

This is a unique house with various odd architecture features such as Switchback Staircase, which has seven flights with forty four steps, rises only about nine feet.

Sarah Winchester was told that allegedly told by a spiritualist that the Winchester family was cursed by the spirits of all the people who had been killed by the Winchester

A fascinating place of history -

This is a home tour - so its best if you like both home tours and a little bit of crazy architecture to enjoy the visit.

By the Winchester Mystery House there is both movies as well as across the street Santana Row is a a great place for shopping as well as many restaurants....so make a day of it in the area.

While very interesting, this attraction is way over priced. Our guide was knowledgeable, the house amazing, & the gift shop extremely nice. The prices for the tour are just too high for what is received in return.

Overpriced & overrated place, very dingy small rooms, nothing special. Our tour guide was very unpleasant & could not answer on some questions. In the book it looks better than in the real tour, and book had all answers. No Pictures Aloud To Make! Not make a special trip for this place, however for Halloween Lovers it will be a good place to visit. May be after Hearst Castle it was not look so good.

Overpriced for what it offers. Don't go by yourself. Preferably in a group, thus a discount. Best time to visit is probably in December.

The Winchester mystery house is interesting in many ways, as an example of California architecture, as a historic monument, but mostly as a model of Sarah Winchester's troubled soul in plaster and wood.
