We decided while we were up in the area to do a couple unusual visits in a day. We started at the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz and then went to Winchester House. This is a very weird house! The story you learn on the tour along the way is very interesting. I wish I could have taken some photos inside! The tours leave every 10-15 minutes and I am sure if people stopped to take pictures it would mess up their schedule. I would not bring very young children here. We bought our tickets online a few days before. The tour lasts about an hour. We are happy we took the time for the tour!

This is a great destination for families in the San Jose/Bay area. We've been there several times, and the time we went with our kids was the best. The docents/guides are knowledgeable, and it's fun to imagine living in such a weird house. Not to mention that it's supposed to be haunted!! Last visited in 1992.

I am sure most reviews have covered all the great aspects of this unique attraction, so I'll try to discuss some other items.

I had been coming here since I was a kid, but this time was very different. I was able to get a ticket to go on the Explore More Tour, which is perfect for someone that's been here before and wants to experience something new. I got to go in through the front door for the tour, which, if you've been here, you know is a very rare experience. There are many rooms that are off limits to the public and not part of the normal tour, and the Explore More lets you see those, including the witches hat where you can hear strange sounds when you speak, and up to to the base of the staircase on the third floor where the 7 story tower fell in the 1906 earthquake.

In between the main tour and the Explore More, we were hungry so we grabbed a bite at Sarah's Cafe. The prices are a little high, but the food was pretty good. We got some spicy fries which have peppers and are quite delicious if you like spicy. The Cesar salad was a bit peppery. The burger and fries were quite good. So, if you're stuck here and want to get something, know it is good food.

The prices are outrageous. This is the definition of a tourist trap. The house was pretty interesting, but I feel it wasn't worth the money. Also, make sure to go on a cooler day. It got ridiculously hot in the house and was miserable. Make sure you do not park in the lot beside the building! While my family was in the house, someone smashed a window in the rental car we had. According to the security guard at the lot, the break-ins happen 24/7, but they still haven't installed any cameras. The guard also told us that he has almost been run over and killed by robbers there. The police did not even attempt to show up. Save your money and just stay away from this area.

After visiting several years ago and taking a hard hat tour, we decided it was time for another visit. We were right!

The entry area has been redone and very open a bright, the Winchester Rifle Museum is still open and interesting to walk through as we wait for our paid house tour. The court yard is very welcoming. A couple of new additions: a shooting gallery, which we didn’t think Sarah Winchester would be too happy about and the green screen for photos taken while holding rifles. This house is so unique and there is so much to appreciate that the photos and shooting gallery cheapen a great experience.

No more photos in the home but a fantastic tour given by Adam! We even were able to see rooms we have not yet visited! It was a great 1 hr 10 min tour. The tiffany windows are still beautiful the stories about Sarah still interesting and the early ideas and inventions of Sarah Winchester still exciting!

Because we did not get enough in the first hour we opted for the Extended house tour for $10 more for each ticket. This was great, all new areas to us to investigate. Our guide Bennett was also very knowledgeable and gave a great tour!

Would love to spend the night someday.

Go visit this beautiful Victorian!
